And protections end in 2026, right?Jazz just keep period it if they beat the protections.

Correct. And protections end in 2026, right?
The Lakers might want Collins if his play keeps up. JJ seems to have convinced Davis to be a 5. Collins is much better than Rui this season.
Its top 8 next year, after which it just flat out expires without converting to anything.doeant the okc pick roll over next year and it is only top 7 protected.
If we actually stick the landing this year and get a potential franchise player in the draft, I think it’s gonna be hard to duck the protections when they’re that low. The Jazz couldn’t get that low the previous two seasons. Its top 8 next year, after which it just flat out expires without converting to anything.
Also, I wouldn't necessarily just wholesale Collinsfir nothing/cap space (essentially nothing when you're the Jazz). He might be a long-term piece. He seems to have figured out what Hardy wants out of him in the system and has shown much more playmaking ability than I have ever seen out of him.
What are the Jazz supposed to do with the cap space? You don't think there is much benefit in cap space next year?
I think you may be right, assuming that guy is legit NBA caliber player on day 1. Some guys that end up really good arent necessarily that as rookies though. If we actually stick the landing this year and get a potential franchise player in the draft, I think it’s gonna be hard to duck the protections when they’re that low. Sure, but we also have a stable of young players that will be better and two other rookies that might pop. They would have to get even grimier than they’ve ever been. I see the Jazz as a play-in team next year easily if they don’t tank at a coaching level.I think you may be right, assuming that guy is legit NBA caliber player on day 1. K, but you have to use 90% of the cap by opening night (to receive LT payouts which is a huge chunk of money) which has largely dried-up opportunities for renting it for future-facing assets. So then they need to spend the money in free agency: who? There are a bunch of things they could do, what do you mean? Cap Space = flexibility.
If we really think that Collins can be a piece of the future, then he is probably more valuable than whatever we can do with cap space. I'm not even close to thinking he is part of the future though, so I prefer the flexibility of having more cap space this summer.
The alternative way at looking at dumping Collins, Sexton, and/or Clarkson is to further cut the legs off the team being good for the next two years as value unto itself.K, but you have to use 90% of the cap by opening night (to receive LT payouts which is a huge chunk of money) which has largely dried-up opportunities for renting it for future-facing assets. We’re at a point where we should have an idea rather than blindly choose a mystery box while still being a team in Utah and still not having enough cap space to make a splash.
I will say if we’re going that route that we gotta get more cap space than what Collins’ absence would bring, so we should be as focused as getting rid of Clarkson or Sexton as well. And you should still have a plan for the space.
Conversely, you could just ride out all three of their deals then glide into ‘27 with cap space THEN, which the Jazz are probably better positioned to pitch for free agents.
Could be. However we do still have potential tank commanders here and we dont know how long the leash is for some of them.Sure, but we also have a stable of young players that will be better and two other rookies that might pop.
