2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

Came across this trade proposal today

Proposed Trade Details

Golden State Warriors Receive: Walker Kessler, John Collins

Utah Jazz Receive: Jonathan Kuminga, Gary Payton II, Kevon Looney, Kyle Anderson, 2025 First-Round Pick, 2027 First-Round Pick

Meh. It's a pass for both teams imho.

The 2027 pick is likely to be pretty good. But Steph will likely still be playing. The 2025 pick is meh since we already have 3 others. I mean, it's trade value will be high no doubt because other teams are wanting in on 2025. But we don't need 4 x 2025 1st round picks.

If you swapped for the 2027 and 2029 picks, then that is much more attractive for me. But Walker Kessler alone is probably worth the 2025 pick (late 20s) and a decent shot at a lottery in 2027 pick. Collins for Kuminga seems ok. The rest of the players are just salary matches that don't excite the Jazz and probably hurt the Warriors and the Jazz.

Actually if you had 4 2025 picks you package them together and move up. Use it as trade bait to possible move another player and get the other teams first and give them ours.

I think SAS could be a decent trade partner. They need help to stay in playoff contention. Honestly, I think Collins would be a great fit next to Wemby.

I still think DeAngelo Russell for Collin Sexton is an easy decision for the Lakers. I am sure the Jazz expect a 1st if they are going to do a favor like that and if the Lakers feel like they are close enough to compete they will get more aggressive.

I would try to turn John Collins into Whitmore. He’s not perfect, but it’s crazy that he doesn’t have a regular rotation spot. HOU is very deep but their backup big situation sucks.
HOU hasn't been mentioned enough in this thread when they are actually the perfect trade partner if you are looking for quality young players instead of crappy draft picks that would likely end up somewhere in the late 20s to add to those 20 crappy draft picks we already have. Also our recent draft record doesn't exactly boost fans confidence in acquiring any more draft picks either. OK over the last two seasons we already draft like 4 busts who are likely out of the league in 3 years, let's go get more picks folks.

Houston has great assets, but if you are Houston, what do you want from the Jazz? If I am the GM of Houston, I am looking for top 10 talents to add to the group that fit with the timeline. If I don't get top 10 assets, then I am hanging up the phone.

Lauri Maarkenan is the only player even in consideration to make Houston take the next step and he is not available for trade until the summer.

Moving Cam Whitmore is all about moving a player they don't like for the same reasons the Jazz didn't want him in the draft. Talented but doesn't see the court for other reasons. Moving Cam fixes a potential issue for them. They would want someone like Taylor Hendricks back for him. Injured but high ceiling and young for 'tude but high ceiling and young. Both unplayable for different reasons. Pass.

I would give up a hell of a lot more for Whitmore than just Collins. Unfortunately the window for stealing him may have passed with injuries forcing him back into the rotation and him showing out. If his minutes disappear again once Eason is back then we should throw a strong offer at them.

I feel like the kings are the wild card team in a John Collins trade. They went all in this year and it has been a disaster to this point and they desperately need another quality big. Heurter and Lyles are a salary match and they have some future picks to work with.

DeRozan, Collins, Sabonis is the worst defensive frontcourt anyone could dream up.

I don't see many options for Collins other than the Heat or Warriors as any team trading for him needs to believe they can hide Collins on defense while desperately needing more frontcourt offense.

Teams that:

1) Have someone bad/worse playing in the rotation at the same position/role
2) Have the outgoing salary to match

Sexton/Clarkson
- Lakers
- Clippers
- Magic

Collins
- Kings
- Rockets

That's why I was calling for Lauri to HOU trade last year for Amen/Eason/Whitmlte. But since the ship has sailed(at least for this season), I don't believe the "top 10 talent that fits with their timeline" exists any more. Like Jimmy/KD/Giannis would all likely have retired or fallen off a cliff before their young core even reach their prime. Exact reason HOU would not go all in on those guys and a small retool would make more sense for them at the moment. That's when JC/Sexton/Collins come into play because what they need right now is offense as they ranked 2nd in the league on defense but 13th on defense. They need a guy who can consistently make buckets outside of Sengun as Green/Brooks/Vanvleet are all streaky at best. A Sexton for Whitmore ot Collins for Whitmore/Sheppard trade would make sense cuz they really don't have enough minutes for their young guys at the moment and the only reason Whitmore and Sheppard started getting minutes recently was due to an injury on Tari Eason and Hou were blowing teams out.

That's easy. Just take Dillon Brooks off their book as he's now a negative asset for them. Amen/Eason basically does everything he does and better and he still got 3yr/60mil left on his deal. Collins for Whitmore+Brooks works. Give them a Cavs pick if they want it.

HOU is going to be after the big fish, but I still think they need a low stakes move to improve that backup big position. Landale and Adams have not been great. Whitmore is a good prospect, but not one that can fit into their healthy rotation. Expirings+Whitmore is what I had in mind for a trade. They're going to want to keep Brooks for now.

If 3pt shooting didnt exist this post might make sense.
