2024-25 Trade Rumors Thread

Vandos contract is real bad. Wasn’t worth that before he had the injury issues. Vincent has less on his deal than JC but not by much. Gabe/JHS and removing the protections is I guess fine since I think we can mothball Vincent easier than JC. JHS can be an experimental tank commander and we can all laugh at @Saint Cy of JFC if he sucks and just delete our accounts and find a new site if he’s good.

Whatevs I guess I’ll take it.

At these prices like for DFS I think Collin likely gets like an okay swap with the Cavs pick and a second or two.

I could see the Lakers talking themselves into a first for Walker now that they got DFS on the cheap. I’m not likely moving Walker myself as I’ve seen some really encouraging stuff but if this is a two year tank everything needs to be on the table.

I had Vando’s contract wrong and my head and it’s worse than I remember. I’m out on that. Is Vincent+JHS+Protections removed worth it? I guess so. Entertainment value of JHS getting minutes here would be at maximum.

I like Clarkson as a person and would also be happiest if he was playing elsewhere.

I do think the Jazz being patient with a Sexton trade will pay off. He's looking like the top difference making scoring guard on the market who wont cost multiple picks or massive salary to change teams.

How did Sacramento not get in the DFS deal? Feels like exactly what they kind of need right now and super cheap.

Because they are probably want to see how the next month or two go to see what direction they should move.
I think they decided to side with players and try to win now. Its probably short sighted but that is how they roll. Even if they change course that was so cheap who cares. Grizz also got cheap but they have some decent wing depth kinda (when healthy).

Locke talking today about the Jazz tanking until 2031 and how the Jazz maybe are thinking that they should keep Sexton for when they finally stop tanking in 2031.

Man, he's going to be 32 and he's 6'1".
This is the exact mentality OKC had. Had the Jazz fully been on board with the tank from the start we’d be closer. We need to have the mindset that that’s how long it takes. It only took OKC 3 years to rebuild. Probably because they got lucky and got a top tier star for George. Jazz need to be patient.

The jazz should’ve traded Lauri after year one in Utah.

Yeah I don't think he meant tanking that in 2031 when we are really competing for something... like we are a contender by then. Either way... Locke my dude... if this is a 2+ year tank then literally all of Collin/Lauri/Walker/Collins and of course Clarkson should be moved. Managing a tank like this for even next year is pretty rough unless for some reason Lauri gets a big injury that we know will stretch into next year. I still think we are trying to thread the needle and have the ability to be a play-in team next year if things break right over the next 12 months. I still think we end up tanking another year though and have things kinda half built. If the plan is to tank another year move JC/Sexton/Collins even if its at a slight discount. Consider moving Walker if there is an okay offer (a really good future first plus something extra). Take on cap fodder and move the hell on. Kick the tires on a Lauri deal, but make sure you get good value.

To be clear, he's talking about tanking for the next three years to get two guys the caliber of like Paolo and Franz and then the team will be good starting in 2031 because it takes three years for those caliber of player to generally develop.

But this is not something Sexton will re-sign for and he probably won't even be good in 2031. 6'1" scoring guards usually don't age well into their 30s.

Yeah if that is the plan then everything should go lol. 2 years is a stretch with Lauri and Collin. I could see Lauri being okay with it as he gets the shine as the max guy and has a young family that likes it here but I think you have to remove Collin and maybe Walker to accomplish a 3 year tank with Lauri.

Yeah I think unless they get Cooper (maybe Dylan or Kas would be good enough?) and then a decent trade presents itself... I think we are in the tank next year.

With heavy emphasis on the "decent trade".

Add Cooper Flagg to this current group and they'd still be absolutely terrible. I can see Flagg helplessly standing on the wing, waiting for the pass that never comes because Sexton has to go 1 on 3.

Do you watch the team? I hear from some about Collin's shot selection or ball hogging and I just don't see it. He would be third in that measure imo on the roster. Either way if he is scoring as efficiently as he does while going 1 on 3 we need to build around him. All guards get caught with the ball here and there and have to force something. I'd say JC forces way more action than anyone.

Anyway... yeah the reason it would possibly rely on a good trade and hitting the lotto is you could convince yourself you have the guy in house now and even though he doesn't help you win there is enough justification to push in a little and let the guys roll a bit.

Odds are against us (and everyone else) so I think its more likely we land a Kas or Tre Johnson and then lean into the tank even harder for 2026 when there should be a few more difference makers.

If we achieve lotto luck and truly believe in our draft pick I think it opens the door to keep Lauri, though trading Lauri could still be the better route if that happens. If we don't, trading Lauri seems to be the right path. There was a window where I could believe in building around Lauri, but things haven't fallen in place to make that happen.

It's all relative. Sexton isn't having a good year (nobody is) but he's still an experienced NBA player who has actual talent and skills (along with a ton of flaws, of course). Compared to the G-Leaguers he's playing with, Collin is obviously going to look like he knows what he's doing most of the time. He's in no danger of manufacturing wins, though... which is the story of his career.

Like if Cody didn't look like the worst player in the league and Taylor had shown some real steps/promise instead of breaking his leg I could get much more hopeful I suppose. Key looks like he may have taken a step after a slow start but he needed to take a leap to help accelerate the timeline. Its looking more like a 2-3 year tank which means go ahead and sell off what you need to to make sure you are bottom 4-5 for a few years.

I think Sexton is doing quite well... Walker too. Not sure what you need for them to have a good year but whatevs. You can compare Collin's shooting splits/profile with many elite guards and he looks good lol... no need to compare it to G Leaguers.
