In their 3rd season (1976-77), the Jazz were 3rd in the league in opponent assists. They easily won their 3rd game of the season and went 2-1 when playing on the 3rd. In games decide by exactly 3 points they went 1-0.

In their 3rd season in Utah (1981-82), the Jazz were 3rd in the league in pace. The Jazz won their 3rd game of the season and went 2-1 when playing on the 3rd. In games decided by exactly 3 points they had a 1-0 record.

Butch Van Breda Kolff was the 3rd head coach of the Jazz. As mentioned in one of these other countdown threads, Butch was a strong advocate of giving up the rights to Moses Malone in order to get a draft pick that would be sent to the Lakers as part of the compensation from the Gail Goodrich signing. Butch coached the team for all or part of 3 seasons, beginning with the last 66 games of the team's inaugural season in 1974-75. While he took over in game 17, he wouldn't get his 3rd win as coach of the Jazz until game 38 against the Rockets on January 10, 1975. It was a 3 point victory.

Butch got his 3rd loss as Jazz coach much earlier on November 26. On 3/15/1975 Butch coached the Jazz to a then-franchise record 140 points. The Jazz would never score that amount of points again with Butch as the coach.

Bryon Russell played 3 seasons with the Jazz while wearing #34. Prior to the 1996-97 season he switched to #3 so that Chris Morris could wear #34. Morris wore #43 with the Jazz in 1995-96. Russell had a breakout season in 1996-97, either more than tripling or nearly tripling his ppg, spg, apg, rpg, and mpg from 1995-96. His PER went up 3.7. In that season and the 1997 playoffs, Russell had 9 (multiple of 3) games when he made exactly 3 3-pointers. The Jazz went 7-2 in those games.

After leaving the Jazz Russell played with 3 other NBA teams. His NBA career ended when he played 3 minutes with the Nuggets in the 2005-06 season. The Nuggets lost the game by 15 (multiple of 3).

Rookie Kirk Snyder made his NBA debut with the Jazz on November 3, 2004. Snyder had 3 rebounds the game as well as 3 FGAs, all of which he missed. The Jazz won 3 games when Snyder scored exactly 3 points. Later in the season (against the Rockets on 3-28-05 IIRC), Snyder made a nice dunk and then made a slashing throat gesture toward the Rockets bench when running down the court. Snyder had 3 turnovers that game. The Jazz benched him for a game as punishment.

3 months and a few days later Snyder was traded to the Hornets as part of a 5-team trade that is the biggest in NBA history with 13 players involved, as well as some draft picks.

Snyder played in 3 games during the 2007 playoffs with the Rockets, in which he averaged 3 mpg. He had 3 FGAs in the playoffs.

Eventually things started to unravel for Snyder. He was charged with aggravated burglary from a 3/30/2009 incident. He would be convicted and given a 3-year jail sentence, though he was released early. He was waived by a Canadian professional team after 3 games in January 2011. He signed with a Russian team in 3/2011, but left the team the next month for personal reasons.

The 6-3 Milt Palacio signed with the Jazz on September 1, 2005. He played 3 seasons at Colorado State. He scored 3 points in his third game with the Jazz which ended in a 9-point loss to the Suns. That was 3 points more than he scored in his first 2 games combined. It was one of 3 games where Palacio scored exactly 3 points. Roger Braille had some serious 3 action with the Suns, recording 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.

Palacio's 2nd 3-point game was against the Spurs, when Palaico also added 3 turnovers and 3 rebounds. His last time scoring 3 points was against the Mavs on 3/11/06. Palacio's +/- was -3 and the Jazz lost the game by 3 points.

Jason Hart signed with the Jazz on July 13, 2007. In the 2006-07 season with the Kings and Clippers, Hart averaged about 3 FGs (2.8), assists (2.9), and rebounds (2.7) per game. Hart scored exactly 3 points in just one game during his season with the Jazz even though he averaged 3 (2.9) ppg for the season. It was a blowout win against the Sonics. Earl Watson had 3 points and 3 rebounds for the Sonics, while Damien Wilkins and a rookie Kevin Durant each had 3 FGs and 3 rebounds, with Wilkins adding 3 turnovers and Durant adding 3 PFs.

Hart also recorded 3 games with exactly 3 assists and 3 FGs. The Jazz went 1-2 in those games. On July 23, 2008 Hart was traded to the Clippers for Brevin Knight. Since Knight wore #2 for the Jazz he will be discussed tomorrow. I will note that in 2003-04 Brevin played in 3 games for the Suns, one of 3 teams he played for that year. With the Suns, he attempted 3 FGs, had 3 defensive (and total) rebounds, and added 3 steals and 3 turnovers.

The Jazz drafted 6-3 Eric Maynor with the 20th pick in the 2009 draft. He looked like a solid backup PG in the 26 games he played for the Jazz, averaging 3.1 apg. Unfortunately, the Jazz felt the need to make a couple of salary dump moves that year. On December 22, 2009 the Jazz traded the expiring contract of Matt Harpring (as it was clear he wouldn't play again) along with Maynor to the Thunder for Peter Fehse, who was drafted by the Thunder (then the Sonics) way back in 2002.

Maynor averaged 3.4 apg for the Thunder in 2009-10 and nearly 3 apg (2.9) in 2010-11. In his 3rd NBA season last year, Maynor unfortunately suffered a torn ACL in a 3-point Thunder win over the Rockets.

Kyle Weaver signed a 10-day contract with the Jazz on March 30, 2011, making the 2010-11 season his 3rd in which he spent time in the NBA. Weaver made 3 3-pointers and committed 3 PFs in his 5-game stint with the Jazz. His best game with the Jazz by far was on April 3, 2011 against Kings. He made all 3 of his 3-pointers with the Jazz in that game, dished out 3 assists, and also grabbed 2 rebounds, scored 19 points, and combined for 3 steals and blocks. He pulled down 3 rebounds in his last (as of now) NBA game.

DeMarre Carroll signed with the Jazz on February 8, 2012, just 3(+1) days after being waived by the Nuggets, one of the 3 teams DeMarre played for prior to the Jazz. Exactly 3 weeks after signing with the Jazz, DeMarre made his Jazz debut on February 29, 2012, seeing 3 minutes of action. Hmm, what else? He scored in double figures 3 times. In the last playoff game against the Spurs, who had 3 wins in the series, DeMarre had 3 FGs and took on a Ronnie Price-like role in sparking the Jazz to almost come back and win. The Jazz may have won if anybody could have made a 3-pointer, but the team went 0-13 and the Spurs won.

Chad Gallagher played 3 minutes for the Jazz in the 1993-94 season. He made all 3 of his FGAs. He had 6 points and 2 personal fouls (6/2 =3). These stats gave him a PER of 66.8 in those 3 minutes.

The Jazz have only had the #3 seed in the Western Conference playoffs twice. In the first year it happened (1994-95) Karl Malone earned $3m (rounded). The Jazz had 3 players who were in their 3rd season. The Jazz were 3rd in the league in FTAs.

The Jazz got the #3 seed the next year in 1995-96. That year the Jazz were 3rd in the league in PFs. John Stockton earned $3m (again, rounded). Jamie Watson and Bryon Russell averaged 3 ppg (rounded in Russell's case).

The Utah Jazz have picked at #3 in the draft three times, picking Dominique Wilkins the first time, Deron Williams the second time, and most recently Enes Kanter.

When the Jazz traded Wilkins, they received three things in return - John Drew, Freeman Williams, and cash.

Deron Williams has played for three teams - Utah Jazz, Besiktas, and New Jersey Nets. When he was traded to the Nets, the Jazz received Devin Harris, who would be playing for his 3rd team, two #3 picks - Derrick Favors was drafted #3 in 2010, and a future pick turned out to be the #3 pick used to take Enes Kanter - and $3 million in cash. The position of an additional future pick received in this trade is yet to be determined.

What a list of scrubs. And it appears that it all started with the infamous Jordan beat down. Jazz should retire the #3 so no one else will have to suffer from the Russell curse.

And he was so mad at being subbed out just when he had gotten hot, he went over to the sidelines and smashed a watermelon with a sledgehammer.
