5/1/11- Greg Miller Interview- not looking good for AK coming back

How was Greg expressing concerns over AK's durability dragging him through the mud?

If he really said something to the effect of "I think AK is faking or milking injuries for some reason, probably because he's a sissy." then that is highly insulting. Even if he was a little more discrete with his language, saying you are skeptical of the severity of someone's injury TO THE PRESS is a diss or a call-out at absolute best.

Most importantly, I cannot find a purpose for it. The guy's a UFA, is it really important to get in some arbitrary parting shot? Because it's either that, or the FO is stupid enough to think this could hurt his market-value (it won't) and increase the chance they re-sign him for cheaper.

Our the Jazz drafting a Center or maybe trading Millsap for Peitrus/Lopez. With that trade we get better shooting and get Bigger? And it was a pretty good interview. I liked what he said about Jimmer. "Its about winning and once were doing that, were fill the seats"

I've seen a lot of people mentioning this Millsap for Peitrus/Lopez deal. Does this idea have any credence, or is it just a popular idea that someone on JazzFanz threw out there?

I thought that is what the Suns offered the Jazz for Millsap at the trade deadline last year.
I doubt the Jazz would go for it now, unless they believe Favors should start over Millsap

If im the Jazz I call up and ask for Jared Dudley and Robin Lopez for Millsap. They both fit a need and Dudley played some amazing ball at the end of the season.

Why does everyone like the Phoenix deal? Seriously. Everyone's so stuck in the mind set of "we need a true (insert position here) playing at (insert position)" that we're willing to play people who are much less talented simply based on the fact that they "fit" that particular position better. Millsap at the 3 is better than CJ at the 3, despite it being more suitable to CJ. Likewise, playing Jefferson "out of position" at center is better than playing Elson at center solely because he's a true center. Lopez is awful for how hyped he is. He's big, but you sure can't see it in his numbers.

Regarding the draft, he said the team wants to get "bigger and better shooting". So we can expect one of the picks, most likely the first one, to be a C.

If that's one player, it sounds like Kanter.

If that's two players, that sounds like Kanter/Valanciunas/Biyombo and Fredette/... can anyone else shoot?

"Getting bigger" sounds like veiled criticism of Millsap.

If anything it sounds like an excuse to the fan base in case they don't re-sign AK.

To me, it sounds like Greg is doing what his dad did by calling players to the carpet (albeit in the offseason - too late to help now) and hold the players accountable.

while we are unlikely to know the exact figures they discuss, if Greg can bring AK back to for $5Mill/year X 3 yrs and DOESN'T take that offer, then I can't see how is "approval rating" would get a bump. It'd likely take a hit.

Miller's approval rating amongst Jazz fans would skyrocket should he decide to not retain AK.

I'm not so sure. Most around here are enamored with the idea of retaining him "at the right price".

You are discounting the importance of a consistent lineup throughout the season. AK going in and out of the lineup created uncertainties all season. As it turned out, players like CJ was not able to gain the confidence in order to be consistent night in and night out.

Umm... yyyeah... that was CJ's consistency problem.

...

CJ was consistently bad. Good gawd, just how many chances is he going to get? Some people on this board have abused fan syndrome. No matter how many times a player sucks, they keep wanting to give him just one more chance. CJ has been given the starting SG position, he's started at SF. He's been the 6th man. FAIL, FAIL, FAIL. The only thing that has been consistent is that his FG% and 3PT% have declined each year for the last 4 years. That's a tough feat to accomplish, especially for a player who should be entering his prime - not on the decline.
