We actually have fairly similar stories Dala, except I'm one generation further removed than you. My grandparents came here in the late 40's after the war with absolutely nothing. Within a decade my grandpa owned land to farm. Within two decades his name was known industry wide. He ended up with an excellent reputation for his product, and an honorary doctorate from the local university for his work in our little industry. I don't think there's any other country where he could have done what he did.

I believe that the adversity he faced helped him more than hurt him. I think we both want the same result for people in the end, I just think we differ in how to get that result. It most likely is because of our different upbringings, and there's a lot we can learn from eachother. The thing is, we most likely both aren't right. The answer probably lies somewhere in the middle, as with most things.

You are. Dala's great... and he's gonna be greater. Dreamers and Realists live on different sides of the see-saw. Dalabro is certainly a dreamer, but if you think there's something wrong with him because of that, you're part of the problem. Dal's unique, in that he hasn't sacrificed his footing on the see-saw-o-philosophies, though he has reached, and keeps trying to reach further, to the other side. He tries to pull the world into what he see's as the best possible place for humanity to be.

No one else does this.. I'm not sure anyone else is still capable of it. Everyone on the "realist" side shuts down the thinking and labels the ideas impossible, or ignores that there's a problem in the first place. Everyone else on the dreamer side(myself included) become disenchanted with trying to find a way to inspire people to want society to be in what they perceive as a better place, slowly bringing us further to the middle.

In this regard, we should all be more dalalike.

I'm not worthy of all of this praise-- but I really try to make sure my motives are rooted in a core of care for all of my brothers and sisters. Sometimes I alienate, sometimes I'm rude. Sometimes I go against what I claim to fight for. Sometimes i'm wrong. And I suppose this all makes me human. I'll try to improve.

I think we do, and I think it's important that we open our ears to as many voices as possible. Especially to those with different perspectives than our own. Trans people, black people, Hispanic people. Jews, Muslims. Etc.

On this I absolutely agree.

Lol. Perhaps you didn't read what I posted. I wasn't slamming Dala for his ideas or ideals. I was disagreeing with his attitude and voicing what I saw with him. If you truly have read my posts and don't think that I want a better life for all people, then perhaps you should just stop reading my posts anyways. Like I said earlier, we differ on methodologies but want the same end result.

I'm not convinced there's an ultimate right or ultimate wrong... but getting everyone on the same footing sure seems like the direction we need to go. Not everyone can win the lottery, not everyone can create that first thing, not everyone will have the balance of luck/knowledge/skills to be "a big deal". And that's ok. What's not ok, is driving those that won't be any of the above further and further towards destitution; ignoring the problems that are steering "everyone else" away.

Free healthcare and cheap if not free higher education are NP problems; Given the answer to check against, we know they're possible and can see that in a relatively quick amount of time. Especially where money is in such abundance here in the states. The longer time goes, the more models of this we see out there thriving, It'll be P.

I digress. I think most people would agree that(financials aside) those two things(Healthcare, Higher/better education) would be best for society. We, as humanity, have produced insanely brilliant minds. Einstein, Newton, Tesla.. They're out there. Why aren't we turning to these types of people, the brightest of each generation, and asking them how to make it happen? You know... instead of those folks that believe the Earth is Flat, or don't believe in climate change because the amount of CO2 that's deadly to a human hasn't been reached on the ground, but have enough money to higher the smart people to focus on making them and their ideas look good?

Perhaps you can't read between the lines as well as I'd hope. Not surprised, and that's not a reflection on you, but me and how I express myself. The concept that I was trying get you to grasp: after being stretched further than anyone I've read on the board, I'm not surprised when and if he goes off on someone once in a while.

Keep following me around like some jaded whore, huh. Tell me who you're supporting in the American election & why, so I can laugh in your face.

As I did in 2008, I will likely write in the names of my daughters for president and Veep.

Aaaaaaaaand Burlington College, whose President was Bernie Sanders' wife, closed due to excessive debt. But don't worry. She got a 200K severance package.

This is rich coming from, by far, the most closed minded poster in JF history. But kids will be kids.

Nothing worth responding to.

Saying education can't be afforded to be made cheaper when countries like Germany make it free (without the deleterious consequences that frank mentions) is just claustrophobic American thinking. Par for the course.

Pls proceed and tell me how health care can't be made free either-- when every other developed country on earth has managed to pull it off.

You're great at avoiding any substantial discourse. I like people who are full of ****. Makes life fun.

Your history leaves a far larger lack, Mr "I don't agree with those numbers, so they don't count, and no I won't provide evidence of my belief".
