A Big Move on the Horizon?

It is amazing how fast and wildly Jazzfanz swings on Favors. One day it is all about keeping him and the next day it is they better trade him while they still can.

It's amusing.
This.
I'm one of the jazz fans who behaves in such a manner btw.

I imagine if we were headed for something big we would have kept Diaw right until his deadline. The flexibility would help... we will see I guess.

I've been arguing for years that a healthy Favors can play next to Rudy and that the whole spacing issue has been blown out of proportion. I still feel that way, if you have 3 shooters on the floor with them, but Rubio replacing Hill changes things. Between that, and Quin's reluctance to start Favors at the 4 when he was healthy at the end of the season last year, I just have my doubts that Favors is going to be in our future plans. There is also some other smoke, such as Favors taking down all his Jazz stuff on twitter, and DL probably not wanting to risk losing another asset for nothing next year.

I'm a big fan of Favors, and I'd like nothing more than to see him and Rudy dominating on the defensive end, now that we have a badass defensive rotation in the backcourt, but there's a ton of smoke pointing to Utah moving him this year.

Yep. This whole thread lost a ton of momentum when we just waived Diaw. Seems like we are staying put or adding a player through free agency.

I disagree. Favor's has always valued consistency. He signed for a cheaper deal before he probably will again if both parties are interested so he doesn't have to worry about free agency.

His agent came right out and said if Hayward was here, Utah wouldn't be able to keep Favors. IMO, that was agent speak for Favors getting paid this time. I doubt there's any chance Utah signs him cheaply again.

I just think if it was close then you'd hold on to the flexibility as long as possible. Could also mean it is agreed to in principle... does not mean it won't happen I would just say it is not eminent.

Boris Diaw's contract is only attractive to teams that want/need to push some salary on the Jazz. The Jazz may not have liked what was offered in return.

I wonder if the Jazz would consider moving Exum. I thought his playing in Summer League might have been in part a move to show some trade value. I think the Jazz still like him, but they'd move him in an opportune deal, especially with the way Mitchell has been playing with the ball in his hands.

The Spurs like Exum. The Suns might like him too.

Exum asked to play, not the other way around. This eliminates your theory.

Here is the Detroit instead of Cleveland version.

NYK sends Detroit it's first round pick.

And I know it seems like Detroit is probably giving up a lot w/o getting much back, but I'm pretty sure they are actively trying to dump Reggie Jackson.

I think the Rockets would do this trade in a heartbeat.
I think the Jazz would be very interested.
Detroit probably wouldn't be excited to give up 2 starters for 1. And the Knicks probably wouldn't want to lose Melo and a first round pick. Houston not having 1st rounders to send Detroit's way might doom that deal.

Favors is a serious downgrade from Love. Let's be real. He'd be a slight upgrade defensively maybe. But it would be a huge hit to their spacing and overall offense. Favors doesn't help them beat Golden St. Who is he taking away defensively? Zaza?

Favors is a good rim protector, something that Cavs doesnt have. Hard for Favors + Thompson to play together but he is certainly not a downgrade from Love, unless he is injured like always

Kevin Love is a 2x All NBA selection, a 4x All Star, he has career averages of 18.4 PPG, 11.5 RPG, 44.2 FG%, 36.4 3ptFG% and 82.0 FT%
Derrick Favors is a 0x All NBA selection, a 0x All Star, he has career averages of 11.4 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 51.0 FG%, 15.4 3ptFG% and 66.4 FT%

I like Favors. But please. It would be a serious downgrade that a miniscule improvement to rim protection wouldn't cover for. The Cavs can get someone on the vet minimum for rim protection. What they really need is better perimeter and team defense if they want to beat GSW.

Also, Utah wants to see what Exum can do now that he finally has a full off season to train. And I think the FO started drooling when they saw Exum and Mitchell on the court together.

As of right now I think Exum and Mitchell are a big part of the future.

People might be forgetting how young the Jazz still are.

Mitchell - 20
Exum - 22
Hood - 24
Gobert - 25
Favors - 25
Rubio - 26

Average age of that core is 23.6

Exum has more value to the Jazz than he does to any other team.
