A Good Word on Cotton

I swear Ben Dowsett has pictures of Zach Lowe he pleasures himself too, but the dumb dude doesn't even know where Rodney Hood went to school before Duke.

For once, somebody has something good to say about the guy. Seems a lost cause by now, but it's good to read some positive observations:

I don't understand why you have been so negatively effected by the opinions of journalists and fans. One of the things I loved about your takes was your confidence in who Cotton is. It should not surprise you that skepticism about his abilities sets in over the course of the off-season, but if he really is the type of player that you and his other fans say he is, then the skepticism on the part of so many is only going to make his performances all the more sweet as you get to rub it in all of our faces and say, "I told you so."

I, for one, am hoping that you have reason to serve us that medicine in many, many large doses.

Is there some sort of backlash against Cotton I'm unaware of? I love him as a 3rd PG and I think he has the potential to be a decent backup PG in this league, or at the very least a good sparkplug when the rest of the team doesn't have any energy that night (something that I might value more than other people...I seem to think energy and chemistry is more important than those who think talent alone is the best thing to have).

More like unrealistic expectations from some of the posters.

Oh that thing again. Give it a rest dude. People false at times.

Well, before Dante's injury, I would have put his chances of making the roster at 7 in 10, maybe 8 in 10. Since Dante's injury, it seems more like 3 in 10. I'm affected by all the rumors and the guards tied to those rumors that it is claimed the FO is interested in. I just thing Dante's injury made it far less likely that he would be on the roster. I assume the rumors are not somebody blowing hot air; I assume they have legs and are accurate. So I assume the FO is looking for a stopgap, and really, Cotton would have to be let go; he'd be the only one non guaranteed.

If he's still on the roster in a year, I suspect most Jassfanz will see him as a asset; that he did not turn out to be a liability.

I'm an outsider on this forum. I've only posted here since about March. Why would I get on here and hype the guy like he's gonna be your starter, or you're not gonna believe how good he is, or sound like some homer who'd hype his grandmother if she were invited to camp. Somebody said in the Huertas thread that him going to LA meant Cotton is breathing "a sigh of relief". I pointed out that no, Cotton has never breathed a sigh of relief in his basketball life, and I can't see him starting now. I guess you could say I have a similar outlook. I'm unable to breath a sigh of relief, esp. feeling his chances of making the roster as this slim.

As far as rubbing it in if he makes it, I don't memorize who has dissed him; it ain't personal. If he makes the roster, yep, I believe he will please the fans in Utah. But I'm an outsider; not here to rub it in if he really helps. I just look forward to good things from him and from the Jazz if that happens.

Of course I did not know this Jazz writer is looked on with disdain...

I hope he becomes an asset. One that jumps like Evans, dunks like Westbrook, and passes like Maraviche.

Joe, I have not lost any confidence in Cotton, or belief in him. But he's not even on a guaranteed contract. If the FO was nervous about Burke, and sending out feelers to trade him, then the injury to Exum changed everything. And not for the better where Cotton was concerned. It's understandable, if they were thinking of moving Burke, dependent on the return, then Burke, Neto, and Cotton might have the FO shaking in their boots. "Woops, what have we done?".
I don't think they want to get rid of Cotton, but if they go for a one year signing of a vet, then it's goodbye Bryce.

In that "climate" of opinion, it was just good to find a write up that actually saw him as a possible asset. Maybe I have tunnel vision and have only been noticing the Jazzfanz members dissing the guy. Which is fine, everybody has an opinion. Just seemed like any good vibes for the guy vanished long ago; that's just the way it seemed to me. But my lenses might be foggy....

Of course I still believe in the guy, have confidence in him, but it's nerve wracking. And I am not optimistic. Maybe I rub it in some Jan night when his 3 pointer wins a game, or some such. But we are light years from any such scenario.

By the worst Utah writer Salt City Hoops has lol.

I appreciate your opinion on this writer. I did not know he was held in disdain by some here. I do not know that history.

But, that said, the question is did he describe Bryce accurately? Or did he not? Was his piece so full of utter nonsense that it's absolutely laughable? I can understand when someone does not like a particular beat writer. I have my "favorites" that make me cringe where my local sports in RI is concerned.

But, worse writer or not, is his article full of it or not? Or are you in fact saying: "This is our worse writer. Therefore, this article is a joke. We can throw it in the circular file."

In other words, are you just using the above logic, or is his analysis a joke and dead wrong for specific points he raises in the article??

I think you are putting too much stock in rumors. It seems to me that Cotton has a greater chance of making the roster now that Dante is injured, not less. Your impressions of this whole situation are so different from mine, but soon we will see what actually happens. And as for the writer you linked to being looked on with disdain, as far as I know that is a Cy thing. If you haven't already noticed, Cy looks on most of the world with disdain so who cares about that?
