A trade idea (somewhat)

The Bulls are over the salary cap and need to clear some space. I have heard Luol Deng's name thrown around a bit. He's signed for 3 more years, plays the 3 that we need so bad. He makes $12 million next year and finshes at $14. Essentially, that's Jefferson's money. What do you think? Any trade ideas to make this happen?

Are you saying trade Al for deng? They wouldn't which is why they are trying to get a rookie contract for him. Or are you saying trade one of our young players.

We don't have what the Bulls want which is a younger/cheaper replacement wing for Deng. A Devin Harris and Alec Burks trade works for Deng, but not sure that an older Deng is worth giving up on the upside of Burks.

This cracks me up. They want to trade one of their best players in what is essentially a salary dump after paying too much for guys who clearly aren't difference makers like Korver (5M a year? Really?) and The Corpse formerly known as Richard Hamilton. One word folks. Foresight.

Chicago is not looking for a true salary dump though. They are trying to get a top 10 pick for Deng, which would be a prospect of equal value, just younger and cheaper.

Yes, because they don't want to continue paying Deng a heavy dollar. It's a salary dump to get a pick, just like Jefferson would be an overrated scrub salary dump to get a pick. Let's call it what it is.

I think he is overpaid. I don't think he is worth Jefferson money, and I don't see him growing into that role. I don't' want to do what Chicago has done and overpay for role players (though he is one of the better ones).

I guess I just have a different definition of what a salary dump. I consider a salary dump to be what NO did today by trading 2 rotation players for nothing in return but cap relief. Trading Deng for the #5 pick in the draft could bring back a potentially better player, so it is a trade done for real basketball reasons. I wouldn't consider it a dump as more of a way to cut costs. But to each his own.

I'd sort of agree with you if they got the #5 pick for Luol ****ing Dung. But they're not.

Right, because they aren't pushing for a championship or anything...

Hoe lee ****... I think you forgot to oil yourself first.

Read the OP I clearly wasn't stating that. I was just giving an idea of where the money is.

Jefferson isn't a salary dump at this point. The guy is on the last year of his contract, now he has more value than all the previous seasons combined. With teams having to pay lower salary there is likely to be some desperate teams. I am thinking the Jazz could maximize their position by picking a solid player.

On a side note, I believe Burks could be moved. I really like him but see him getting injured a lot if his game doesn't change. He plays far too agressive for his size.

What? If Rose hadn't gotten hurt, they very well could be playing for a championship this year. Hard to nitpick a team who had a legit shot at playing for a title. As for Deng, the new CBA is going to force teams to consider dumping high dollar guys, and that's just the way it is. It's not like this is just some penny-pinching move because ownership is cheap.

Your point? They're in this predicament because they're not cheap enough, or should I say wise with their money. Deng isn't a true difference maker either and is at best a 3rd option on a championship team, and imo, more likely a 4th option and they paid him a contract that's going to net him 14M soon enough.

15 ppg, 37% 3pt shooter, good defender, good rebounder, passes well. Not a difference maker?

Yes, he will be a little overpaid, but every playoff team has some overpaid players (with the rare exception of OKC because all their players are still on rookie contracts).
