Aaron Gordon, a No. 5 Pick?

BTW, for those of you that didn't know, videos can be very easily edited. I've made a series of three-pointers in a row as well.

The Jazz need a player so good at offense that they can build an offense around them. Can ANYBODY here honestly say that they can expect Aaron Gordon to become that player? Why?

I don't think this is true. You don't need that one guy. However you need enough guys to do their part. Right now I believe the Jazz have enough offensives power as the young guys grow especially if y'all retain Hayward. The thing that really killed Utah this year IMO was Corbin and weak defense. Corbin is gone and you project Gordon to be a big time defender from day one(especially on the perimeter).

I seriously change my mind between Gordon, Vonleh, and Smart everyday. Today it's Gordon. I like the idea of him playing the 3 and his athleticism is just ridiculous. He would be incredible with a jumper.

One thing that worried me for a while is he would end up disappointing the way Derrick Williams did. But Gordon is a millions times the athlete (he doesn't have to jump off two feet like D will, and Gordon is VERY quick off the floor) he is a better defender, he moves well and he has a very good handle. Gordon with a jumper would be in top tier this draft. Do we take the risk?

Gordon also seems to have that love for the game and that fire for it. Something that I just don't see in Vonleh. I can't stop worrying about this part of Vonleh. It's a major hangup for me with him.

Jabari was also the hub from which Duke's offense operated from and the centerpiece to every other team's defensive gameplan. But that couldn't matter.

Of course it matters. I never said it didn't. But, it matters both ways. If Gordon was the hub of his, he may have scored as much as him. ... Wasn't trying to say A. Gordon has the offensive game of Jabari, he doesn't. Just saying those who say he has no game in that side of the ball are wrong. Gordon is still raw offensively, but he definitely has a game.

Aaron Gordon, Small Forward of the Future! Looks like he shot the ball really well today. Stoked!

Aaron Gordon was impressive in his Saturday morning workout with the Utah Jazz.

The Arizona forward showed an improved shooting touch, consistently making 3-pointers from the NBA corners. Unlike most of the prospects the Jazz have brought in, he didn’t struggle with the altitude. He displayed the explosion and the athleticism that’s made him a hot prospect in the first place. He impressed the Jazz with his overall enthusiasm.

On a day Utah introduced Quin Snyder as its new coach and brought in other first round prospects like Adreian Payne, Jerami Grant and Jarnell Stokes, Gordon stood out in his own way. And as the time to the NBA Draft gets shorter, Gordon seems to have firmly etched his way into the conversation for the Jazz’s fifth overall pick.

"He went as hard at the end of the workout as he did at the beginning," Utah’s VP of player personnel Walt Perrin said. "He shot the ball well from the corners and he’s really improved his shooting over the last year. With his athleticism, he has a high ceiling."

Those who have watched Gordon over the last year know about the high-flying dunks, the defense, the size for his position and how hard he plays the game. Still, Gordon’s received knocks in the draft process for his lack of shooting, and his 42 percent free-throw percentage while at Arizona.

So when he declared for the NBA Draft, Gordon went to work with a personal trainer. He’s tightened his shooting stroke and so far, it’s yielded results.

Perrin said his overall game has improved in the last year. Gordon wouldn’t define himself a position, but Perrin said he thinks Gordon can play both front court spots at the NBA level. Should the Jazz draft him with the No. 5 pick, Gordon could instantly give Utah an infusion of raw athleticism up front. And on a team that often struggled defensively, Gordon’s ability to guard multiple positions and rebound would serve as a welcome asset.

"I want to play wherever they need me to play," Gordon said. "I’m a basketball player. I know some people are a little edgy on this answer, but you can put me on the floor, I can defend and I can give you what I can give you on offense."

He's #2 on my board for the 5th pick (with the standard "provided the top 4 guys are gone" caveat, though many don't even think Exum is part of that group). Though I'm pretty happy with any of the 4 after the Top 4. Still, if Snyder can give Gordon a jumper that's anywhere close to Carroll's (and Carroll attributes part of his improved shooting to Snyder's work with him) then I think he has every other physical tool to be a force in this league.

It he could play sf i like idea to bring good athletic defender to Dance with LBJ , KD, Carmelo, just to mantion a few._

If Snyder has much input, Gordon is going to be the pick imo. In his interview with David Locke, Locke comments about Snyder writing 14 pages on the pick and roll. Snyder says that "pick and roll defense is what gets coaches hired and fired, and I was just trying to not get fired".

If you play Gordon at SF, he isn't going to factor that much in PNR defense.

You still have to think about all the things that go into team defense such as rotations and defending in space all things that Aaron does well. Gordon will have an impact on the entire defense even when he's not defending on ball or in PNR action. Not to mention in the clutch he'll probably be guarding the other teams #1 options. So he'll be involved in a lot of PNR defense.

Come playoff time it becomes a bigger factor especially against these elite teams with great wings who run the pick and roll.

If he has the ability to play SF on the defensive end and gets that outside shot. I am all for it.

Using him at the 4??? Not so much.

His DX video showed he is a good off-ball defender. I have hig confidence in this aspect of his game.

If that's what he said then I would think he's hinting at Smart. P&R defense typically involves a guard (usually the best ball handler on the team) and a big. We already have 2 defensive bigs, Gobert and Favors. I don't think there are any upgrades to be had at 5. However, Smart would most likely be an upgrade over Burke.

So if you want to use the P&R quote then I'd say he's leaning specifically to Smart, not Gordon.

If you assume he just wants to improve our defense in general terms, it could go either way Smart or Gordon.

Overall, I think we're over analyzing his quotes to confirm to our desired picks for the draft.

So we want him to leave other team's #1 option to help on the P&R that is occurring on the other side of the court?
