Aaron Gordon vs. Marcus Smart

With this draft day scenario, who would you want the Jazz to take?

Wouldn't' say he is too short to be a starting SG. It isn't ideal size, but he will manage.

How many really good SG's are in the league right now that can take advantage of height mismatches anyway? Plus, posting up Smart won't be easy because of his strength.

Yes, every shooting guard that is 6'5" or taller will take advantage and that's a majority of the league, we saw how Millsap and Boozer faired against length, they may have put up nice numbers but when it came down to winning in the playoffs, we got killed. Plus, if Marcus could shoot that would help make up for his lack of length and he can't even do that. Defense wins championships, teams will just shoot over the top of him and force Marcus to shoot outside shots. Which is why you draft Aaron, work on his shot and he has the rest of the intangibles to be a very special player in this league and worth the 5th pick.

Dragic and Bledsoe seem to do just fine in Phoenix. Dragic is 6'3 and Bledsoe is 6'1.

I'm not convinced there are many SG's in the league out there right now who can effectively take advantage of a size mismatch over Smart. He is a tough, physical defender.

Did I miss something? How did Phoenix fair in the playoffs this year, are they still playing? Oh that's right they didn't make the playoffs, in the same position your Utah Jazz we're last offseason.

Wtf are you talking about? Smart is craaaaazzy long for a PG (longer wingspan than Rose, Westbrook, Wall etc.) and has just fine length for a SG (only .75 inches shorter than Burks).

Yup. Wiggins is 5 or 6 inches taller than Smart and yet it was Marcus who bullied the **** out of Wiggins.

There is too much stacked against him, I don't like his chances, how has Oklahoma State faired the last two seasons, any elite eight or final four appearances?

Like what? His "lack of length"? lol

And yeah, Jabari Parker, Andrew Wiggins, and Joel Embiid are gonna suck too. Dat lack of Final Four appearances doe.

I don't think Smart will be winning MVPs by any means, but he'll be a good pro. He'll be a good two-way player from day 1.

How did Kansas do this year? Duke?

We should draft Shabazz Napier bro. His team was good and I hear he's hungry.

Are we discussing the first three draft picks of Wiggins, Embiid, or Parker? The OP is about Aaron Gordon vs. Marcus Smart. Aaron Gordon's only short coming is shooting and the list off short comings stacked against Marcus Smart is not someone you use a 5th overall pick on, that's all I am saying. Of course I would much rather have one of those top 3 picks but that's a little unrealistic because it will take too much to move up in this draft.

Smart is only an inch shorter than tony allen who is one of the best defenders in the league. Personally i think being a little shorter is much less of a burden on guards than it is on big men.

Saying people can just shoot over him is ridiculous, if he is a good defender and can stay in their face he will still disrupt their shot.

You're not a Jazz fan? Lmao, they were 1 or 2 games out of the 8th spot with mediocre talent.

So, who do you think we should pick?

I am a Michigan guy and I believe Burke will make a big jump his sophomore year like he did at UofM. I am not easy at all to write him off. Gordon has the potential to be a great 2-way player.

Why not use our cap space to fleece Sacramento out of the 8th pick and draft them both? I think undoing the financial hell that the Kings are in would be worth the 8 pick, and they would be happy to pay it. There ya go.

I'm not ready to replace Burke yet either, so drafting Smart would be for the 2, not for point. It sounds like he's going to have to be a point, and if that's the case we have a good (potentially really good) point already. If its between the two, then I'll go with Gordon's upside. Pretty sure he'll figure out how to shoot free throws.
