So, who do you think we should pick?
If we move up to number 2 position draft Wiggins if available, number 3 draft Parker if available, stay at 5 draft Gordon.

Are we discussing the first three draft picks of Wiggins, Embiid, or Parker? The OP is about Aaron Gordon vs. Marcus Smart. Aaron Gordon's only short coming is shooting and the list off short comings stacked against Marcus Smart is not someone you use a 5th overall pick on, that's all I am saying. Of course I would much rather have one of those top 3 picks but that's a little unrealistic because it will take too much to move up in this draft.
Why not use our cap space to fleece Sacramento out of the 8th pick and draft them both? I think undoing the financial hell that the Kings are in would be worth the 8 pick, and they would be happy to pay it. There ya go.
Dragic and Bledsoe seem to do just fine in Phoenix. Dragic is 6'3 and Bledsoe is 6'1.
What are you not following? You brought up tournament success as a red flag that Smart won't be good, so some of us brought up that you could say the same thing about the top 3 prospects. In other words, you're point was not valid. Team success is not always a great indicator of how good prospect is, plain and simple.
I'm not even convinced we should take Smart (I'd probably be fine with Gordon, Smart, or Vonleh), but your arguments against Smart are beyond weak.
Fine take the tournament success away, Smart still has too many variables stacked against him and Gordon has one, get better at shooting.
Lol Gordon has soooo much more to work on besides get better at shooting. Look at his usage %. He can't currently create his own shot at a consistent rate in the half court in virtually any way. Not penetrating, not shooting off the dribble, not posting up, not with floaters/runners. His points came purely from: lobs, put backs, spot up jumpers, and in transition. As he is today, he's the definition of a role player. Simply improving his jumper won't change that. There's so much more to basketball than that.
Again, I'm not advocating we don't take Gordon. I'm not sure who we should take. But your assessments of both Gordon and Smart are really bad.
Sounds like the deandre jordan of small forwards.
I do like gordon, for me it's between him and smart. Smart being bpa in my opinion, and gordon filling a position of greater need.
I go back and forth between these guys daily.

I have nothing against any of the potential #5 picks (well I have something against all of them but think they are all good prospects), but I have no idea why Smart isn't someone a 5th pick can be used on. He might be one of the most complete players in the draft at the guard position.
I totally see Aaron Gordon being this tweener, freak athlete, that isn't a great shooter, but having an insane work ethic and out hustles everyone on the court developing in the small forward version of Russell Westbrook. Westbrook dropped in his draft because no one really knew what position he played and if he could ever shoot, and it could be argued he is the top 2 or 3 players in the 2008 draft and he was insane athletically.
Smart's workout in LA and interview. Best part at 1:00 where he shows indifference about being a Laker.
