Aaron Gordon With The 5th Pick

I always rooted for Randle but I would also like a dunker aboard. After all, dunks are one of the most exciting things in the game if not the most. Also, I really don't wanna see another Kanter experience about not being able to pass out of double team, keep the head down and not see the 1/3rd of the court.

I'm on the Smart bandwagon, but I'll have no complaints about picking Gordon. If he can work hard and improve his shooting, he has every thing else to be an elite player.

Aaron Gordon
Chad Ford's Top 100: No. 7
Strengths: Assist%, TO%, PF% | Weaknesses: 2-point%, Shooting
WARP projection: 1.6 (15th among top 100)
Comparables: Anthony Randolph (93.6), Maurice Harkless (93.6), Tobias Harris (93.3), Thaddeus Young (93.3)

Great players to be compared to.

What's odd is I think Smart's his 8th best pick, yet the players he's compared to are all-stars.

A talking head on ESPNU? Griffin had the far better rookie year in college, it wasn't real close. His sophomore year he made an even more massive leap. He was close to a 40 PER player leaving college and the clear #1 pick. But yay for checkboxes.

he was comparing high school senior gordon vs. high school senior griffin

Very well, it still would have widened the gap. FG% and TS% are the biggies. One player had an offensive skill set, the other didn't.

Griffin Force had a post game and a nice touch around the basket. He was a physical presence down low.

Gordon has no idea what a post game is and throws the ball at the basket. Unless it's a dunk he doesn't score.

Gordon has more in common with t rob then Griffin Force

There is this whole other aspect of basketball ball that apparently doesnt matter in the blake vs aaron comparison.

Its defense.... gordon>>>>>griffin at defense

I just saw Parker at the creamery. He eats here about 3 times per day. Man is he fat. He is such a porker. He definitely isn't a top 4 pick.....

Author lost all credibility when he said Derrick Williams had the same game. Just because they went to the same school does not mean they have the same game. The two are completely opposite.

Araron Gordon is a very, very smart player. AK is a better comparison... but I think Gordon has a better offensive game.

And for everyone that keeps comparing him to Jeremy Evens, please stop. Just because both players can jump incredibly high that does not mean they are the same type of player.

FYI.. Aaron Gordon can shoot the jumper, just has to be in the flow of the game. That is not how Arizona used him, but he had some pretty clutch 3's for us last year.

There is risk with picking him, but he does have a perennial All-Star upside. He would also mesh very well with Kanter, Favors and Hayward... thats a very versatile group on D.

Quick feet are really promising. He is already a filler foe the pick and roll defense. Jazz need defensive trainers to grow the guards and kanter in defense. If they pick Aaron, they will also need to teach him post game, off hand and shooting. Or else this won't work out and the opponent will easily exploit the weaknesses. The most important thing for a pick is trying to have the guy who has abilites unteachable. Aaron's down sides are trainable. And he is smart. Can pass smart. Eyes are working. He has great potential but a long way to go. If in the meantime he can joy us with his above the rim game, this is a total win situation. And his offensive rebounding really suits well to the rest of the team.

I understand Gordon is a freak athlete and that if he can learn to shoot well he could become one of the best players in the draft. Is anyone else concerned about his 42% free throw percentage? The Jazz already had an elite defender and subpar shooter with Kirilenko in his prime, so would you guys be content with a Kirilenko-lite in this draft?

This may have been discussed in another thread, but is anyone else concerned about his 42% free throw percentage?

Malone was less then 50% FT shooter entering NBA. Turned out quite well. It is all about work ethic and Gordon has been known to have great work ethic. His 35% 3 pt shooting tells me his FT% is not going to be an issue for long.

Ft% is often psychological. That may scare some, but not me. I see A. Gordon as an insanely gifted 18 yr old kid. I think those ft's will start falling in no time.
