AK Sucks in Olympics Operner Vs. GB -- only scores 35

Do you think the reason he plays better for Russia might have to do with how his coach uses him and how his teammates give him the ball when he's in position to score. Something the Jazz weren't too good at. Funny that Golden State was thinking of signing him since Mark Jackson used to feed him alley-oops all the time -- that was when Jerry and Stock weren't too enamored of the alley-oop and there was even a little controversy in the locker room over that, and I believe AK was actually in Jackson's camp.

So..... A legend, and one of the greatest pure pg's is supposed to change his game to accommodate The whining baby. AK was his own worst enemy. After he got his big contract, he thought that ment he didn't have to work anymore. Before the big pay day he would fly all over court getting those crazy stats and always being near the top in blocks. When he got paid he excepted to get the Allstar treatment. When he stoped putting fourth 100% effort he lost the respect of his coach and teammates. It's also funny how he started getting hurt after he got paid as well because he didnt give the same effort in practice and his own time.

I can't believe all the misinformation people are responding with. About the only factual information is about AK's injury issue. The rest of the statements are truly oversimplifications. All of the guys playing for GB are professionals; they're a lot better than college players and most D-Leaguers. No, the Euroleague is not as good as the NBA, but they play at a very high level. It's no longer a guarantee that if an NBA team played a Euroleague team, they will beat him. So to say that they are scrubs or college level players is just being ignorant.

What an ignorant comment. This is a fallacy made up by people who hate AK because he didn't become a superstar. The guy was and is a damn good ballplayer. I hope he doesn't get injured this year and has his best season ever and shows you AK haters how ignorant you truly are.

Did you know that an American has never led scoring in the Olympics?

Did you know that Brazilian small forward Oscar Schmidt has the highest average score in any Olympics, 41.9 ppg in 1988, and was the leading scorer in two other Olympics (1992, 24.8 ppg, and 1996, 27.4 ppg) and averaged 28.8 ppg over 5 Olympics? Did you know that in 1987, he played in the Pan American games against a US team that included David Robinson, Danny Manning, Pervis Ellison, Keith Smart, Rex Chapman, and Dan Majerle, and scored 46 points in a 120-115 win?

Did you know that an Australian has led Olympic scoring twice - Eddie Palubinskas (1976, 31.3 ppg) and Ian Davies (1980, 29.3 ppg)? Palubinskas was also the first Aussie drafted by an NBA club, by Atlanta at pick 61. He was traded to the New Orleans Jazz and also drafted by the ABA's Utah Stars. However, he did not make the roster of either team.

Did you know that being able to score at the Olympics has absolutely nothing to do with ability to score in the NBA?

Jackson didn't think he should start over Stockton, but he did have disagreements over how to run the team, and the alley oop was one of them. In fact, Jackson was one of the best alley-oop passers ever in the NBA, a style that Stockton did not like to use.

"The NBA’s alltime assist leader may be getting a push out the door by his new backup this season and the No. 2 man on the career assist list, 38-year-old Mark Jackson. Three members of the Jazz organization now understand why Jackson has been traded seven times in his 16-year career: They say that over a period of weeks, he succeeded in turning several teammates against Stockton by repeatedly remarking that those players would be better off if Jackson were the Jazz’s floor leader…”There was no question it hurt John, because you could see him withdraw,” says a high-ranking team official. “But he’ll never talk about it, just as he won’t talk about injuries, because then he feels like he’s making excuses for himself.” (SI)"

Just so you know I'm on record saying that AK is worth the money in the "is AK worth 10 million?" thread provided he stays injury free and has a good attitude and actually works for his pay.

If only the Hall of Fame player??? and coach would have adjusted their games to accommodate a slightly above average player somehow he would have been dominant?

huh? what hall of fame player? AK was only Jazz max player who should have been treated like one but instead was downgraded to role player by Sloan.
Pointless debate here, haters will hate forever, they just can't accept simple fact that their beloved Sloan sucked at utilizing unique talents. All he knew was to run PG and PF dominated pick and roll.

Did you not watch him play after he got paid?

I understand his offensive drop off, boozer Deron, and Memo were all better options on offense but his drop off in blocks steals and overall defensive declined is inexcusable. AK pouted which caused him to play to not work hard, and caused bad feelings among the coaches and players.

Problem is AK blamed everyone but AK. It wasn't Sloans, or Derons, or Boozers fault AK play suffered.
It was AK's fault.

I think this is the biggest thing people fail to realize. Winners win. Sometimes, winners also lose. The difference is that the real winners actually possess insight into why they lose and are able to improve upon it. Those who advocate for AK on the team really underestimate the psychological and sociological aspects of basketball, which transcend talent. AK wants to win. But winning isn't AK's primary gratification. He wants to have fun. That's fine and dandy, but that's not what you try to work around if you're really trying build a contender. This is the divide on the board: some want to see AK be about winning, some want to see AK having fun, and the rest delude themselves into thinking you can have both.

Why I need to point again and again and again, that this is stupid and ridiculous and FALSE statement. His stats two years after signing max contract were equal or better then before. He lead league in blocks, became NBA All defensive player and had 5X6 after AFTER max contract.
Problems started in third year after max contract when Sloan reinstalled his PG to PF dominated offense and Deron decided that he has rights to freeze AK out of the offense. AK's minutes and FG attempts dropped drastically... any max player who was previously called face of franchise would be unhappy, some ask for trades, some will clash with coach, some start not coming up to practice... all AK asked is to get him same touches and role like before. Of course nothing happened so ignorant people think it is all AK fault that he is not blocking 3 shots a game anymore... Well let me ask you how you can do that if you play out of position and less minutes??? No wonder after winning gold in Eurobasket 2007 and becoming MVP and thus proving to all world that he is same player like in 2006 he asked to be traded. To bad he had no balls to stick to his request and accepted diminished role after that meeting with Miller and Sloan.
It is not AK's fault. It is Utah Jazz who made him max player but treated him like that for just two years. After that they kept paying him max salary but treated him like rookie.

Buh-buh-buh... that was the summer Ben n Jerrys discontinued his favorite flavor of ice cream! He was a delicate talent... he needed to be nurtured! How could he be expected to perform without every single possible thing in his life and situation being perfect? I mean if Ben n Jerrys wasn't gonna give him the ice cream flavor he wanted, how could he be expected to accept things and buy in?

You can't seriously be saying that AK was a better offensive threat then Boozer? Boozer was a better shooter from midrange better slasher, and finisher, and didn't get the ball striped every time he went inside. AK was a better playmaker, but with a stud like Deron running point as one of the best playmakers in the league, the jazz just didn't need that as much from AK.

Instead of crying every other game about his touches or lack there of, he should've kept quiet, and stayed a team player, giving the jazz what they needed, which was hustle and great defense like he did before he got paid. It's not hard to see how and why AK grew out of favor with Sloan, and D-Will. They grew tired of his me first personality that he evolved into.

So you can lump him with great company like Dwight Howard and Carmello Anthony. Great talents, indeed. Mentally? Not the guy you want leading your team... or even being on it.

Let me put it like this so even you can understand....

Deron and Boozer were better offensive players. AK shut down because because his offensive roll on the team diminished, causing him to not play his best, causing his minutes to go down.

Instead of crying every other game about his touches or lack there of, he should've kept quiet, and stayed a team player, giving the jazz what they needed, which was hustle and great defense like he did before he got paid. You again making same incorrect statement. He gave Jazz great defense for two years after signing max contract. He played well with Boozer for two years and had no problems with touches or defensive hustle. Problems started in third year after Sloan changed things on offense and Deron was given free reigns.
You missing main point here. Jazz made him max player. They did not ask him to play just defense and hustle when they handed him max contract. You do not call role players "face of franchise " on max contract signing day. Jazz screw up and mishandled AK during his max contract's third year and started using him as role player. They made another mistake by not trading him for Marion in 2007, it would have been better for everybody at that time. Then they made a peace with AK by promising him something in that meeting. If you look at 82.games ratings AK was bets Jazz player in 2008-2009 season by Roland rating, better then Boozer or Deron and second best in 2007-2008 and 2009-2010. You AK haters will hate forever but you can't use ridiculous and false argument that "he was not playing as before after max contract".

Let's call it a day since you and I have finally agreed in something: AK should have been traded for Marion. The front office was too sentimental.

This just in: AK looks still looks good in not the NBA and write4u still lacks a serious amount of mental faculties.

In other news, Germany surrenders!
