Al Jefferson to Utah? ...Mark Stein's Twitter reports

I love this deal for the Jazz because we actually get a more young, more long, and more athletic version of Boozer, in Jefferson we at least get someone who plays a little more defense then the Carlos 'The Matador' Boozer.

The Utah Jazz are acquiring forward Al Jefferson(notes) from the Minnesota Timberwolves, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

The source said the trade will be completed sometime Tuesday. The Jazz will take on Jefferson by using the trade exception they obtained in their sign-and-trade deal that sent Carlos Boozer(notes) to the Chicago Bulls.

The Jazz also expect to send the T’wolves a protected first-round pick they acquired from the Memphis Grizzlies last season in the Ronnie Brewer trade and another future first-round pick. More than anything, the T’wolves are making the deal to get off the remaining three years and $42 million on Jefferson’s contract. They have been looking to trade Jefferson for some time after deciding to build around forward Kevin Love.

Free-agent point guard Luke Ridnour also is close to agreeing on a four-year, $16 million contract with the T’wolves. Minnesota has been trying to trade point guard Ramon Sessions, who it signed to a four-year, $16 million deal a year ago.

Jazz owner Greg Miller hinted at the trade on his Twitter account Monday night. “I just approved a Jazz roster move that I’m very excited about,” Miller tweeted. “Planning to share details tomorrow.”

Jefferson, 25, averaged 17.1 points and 9.3 rebounds last season, but struggled at times while recovering from knee surgery.

Reminds me of the Marion-AK swap when Larry H reportedly killed the deal. Or, the Suns wanted Millsap, too, and that's why the deal didn't happen, depending on who you believe.

In any case, let's hope Minn isn;' demanding picks PLUS Tomic. I'd play hardball a bit. Minnesota really doesn't want to take on the contracts of DeShawn and Caroll. Jazz has the best package to offer. Tell them they'll get our 2011 and 2013 1st rounders, lottery-protected, and that's the best offer. Or give them the Memphis pick instead of the 2013 pick.

If Utah gets Jefferson, our 1st-rounder won't have much value next season. Unless the Jazz get hit with injuries, they should be vying for a 2-4 seed.

Could it be the Jazz are putting Jefferson through his physical right now? That way, they don't have to agree to the trade only to rescind. Just say it's true, already.

I want to see ESPN photoshop Al in a Jazz uniform but we can't because the damn uniforms wont be released to the public until August. Beep, man. Beep.
