Alex Jensen on the coaching staff?

He was out to dinner last night with the coaching staff. David Locke was asked about it. All he said was "no comment".

For those of you that don't know Alex Jensen is a former Ute player and is from Utah. He was my favorite college player when I was growing up. He recently had been coaching with Majerus and now is a D-League coach. He was coach of the year in only his second season.

I would love this guy in the organization.

Interesting. I don't remember him at all (sorry, not a Ute fan). What made him your favorite player?

Dude played HARD. His intensity was amazing. He was even notated as a great defensive player in his European career.

I am a fan, too.
I watched him play in Turkey and he was the perfect team player and a natural leader-by-example.
He was a good rebounder and had some range on his shot.

Great understanding of the game + a humble personality = me likey

Count me in as one who would be super happy if this happened, I remember seeing him work out at the West Jordan gym (Gene Fulmer) after the draft but before the summer league the year after he graduated. But yeah he was one every college fan loves having on their team for sure for the reasons Tark said.

Not a Ute fan But it would be hard to forget Alex Jenson. The guy was all guts and heart out on the floor. Great guy and I would love to see him added to the Jazz staff

Player development coach? Incidentally, what position did he play?

(i'm afraid i don't watch college ball much, seeing as it bites.)

Oram and Gennesy now reporting it:

Jones will fill Jeff Hornacek's spot on bench. Jazz now have all-former Ute development staff with Jensen and Johnnie Bryant.

Brad Jones will be the No. 2 assistant on Tyrone Corbin's coaching staff. Sidney Lowe is lead Jazz assistant. Michael Sanders also on staff.

Rather than Jensen being lead dev. director, and Johnnie Bryant the asst., Bryant also gets a bump. They will have essentially same position

Jones, who won the D-League championship as head coach of the Austin Toros in 2011, replaces Jeff Hornacek. Hornacek left in late May to become the head coach of the Phoenix Suns. Jensen, last year’s D-League coach of the year with the Canton Charge

Hard working, garbage man type of player. Never stopped hustling, tried hard on defense, improved every year at Utah. A guy who seemingly had very little talent and athleticism but was all over the floor making plays.

Didn't Majerus say Jensen was the smartest player he ever coached?

Ty has to be looking over his shoulder a little bit doesn't he?

I would think so. He is very defensive minded. This guy will be a head coach in the NBA.

Sounds like perfect qualities for an assistant coach.
