What's new

Andy Larsen is on point

I mean they could have traded for Craig... he literally was offloaded for $100k... no one had to make any decisions. That’s not fantasy land at all... we gave up more for Matt Thomas.

And the draft is a crap shoot but go back and look at draft night when I lost it cuz we took a center we surely were going to bring in a vet to bury them on the roster... I literally was cornered and asked to pick one dude and chose Bane.

Does having Bane and Craig change our world... maybe, maybe not... but those are two options Quin could use that he doesn’t have. Neither guy needed to pick us...

The narrative of stupid fan/media boy knows nothing is pretty annoying. The front office has a hard job and there are parts of this they totally messed up... calling them on it is perfectly fine.
The flipside though is that Favors looks kind of cooked so maybe Udoka really does pan out as being a great pick, though the flipside of that flipside is that the Favors contract was overboard.

But that is it... we were a title contender this year... and had clear needs... Ersan isn’t good enough to replace Niang or Favs apparently... he must really suck in practice right?
I mean, there's a high chance Craig never plays in front of Niang either.

ANd your boy Shaq Harrison wasnt good enough to play in front of a 2-way rookie contract player...

Yup... and look say we got a team option on the final year or say it was a one year deal... then I get it... 3 years full MLE with last year a player option was absolutely overboard... I was okay with it in a vacuum but not if you consider our salary needs and the fact that you just drafted a true center.

I can live with bad results I guess... but when the process is also stupid then that’s not great.

I also don’t love the idea of using a first to draft a guy to develop into your backup center. The skeptical side of me says they make a pick like that and it can’t be judged for three or four years... it just looks like kick the can down the road job preservation. If the kid is really as good as you think find a stop gap between at center so he can have a clear path to playing time at some point.

Then that is on Quin... it’s tough to look at Niang and Oni and say that Quin wouldn’t have gone to Craig by now.

Shaq didn’t break through... I don’t think Malone would have run Oni out there either.

The thing is Snyder probably wouldn't play Craig just as he isn't playing Thomas and didn't play Harrison.

Ersan proved he can still play when he had that great game; and then they threw him back on the bench (he literally played 4 minutes the next game).

Yet Niang has sucked during the playoffs and gets 10 minutes a game. Go figure.

You're making a total straw man argument here. The Jazz whiffed on the margins this year, and every time that's been brought up with granular detail you just say "nah, these are professionals".

Well so are the Kings. People at every level **** up and the Jazz did a bad job on the details. That is coming back to bite us right now and it's not as though that was unforeseen.

To be fair, the Kings are not professionals.

Yeah, Quin is becoming as stubborn as Sloan with his lineups. Young guys used to get chances a few years ago now they rarely even get good garbage minutes.

I rather give Hughes a shot instead of running Oni out there again. The reality is the front office after losing to Denver in the bubble said they need to get more athletic and size at the wing positions. Then they turn around and draft a center. Then instead of giving him backup minutes they overpay for Derrick Favors who is obviously no the player he use to be. He is still young but he runs like an old guy. Niang played better in the regular season but his lack of athleticism is so obvious. Now we have about six other guys sitting on the bench and the coach feels that none of them can contribute so why have these guys. Find some players who can.

I know the series is tied but if feels as though the Jazz are down. They're not moving the ball or playing defense, throw in dumb turnovers and these are the reason why they got blown out in LA. Still if they win game 5 then all the pressure is on LA. I am more concerned about our injuries if we do advance. The Suns are going to be tough to beat even if the Jazz were healthy.

Whatever became of the Jazz vaunted player development program? It seems like the minivan is all we have to show for it. Guys with two way contracts are destined for the waiver wire. I noticed one of those exiles Tyler Cavanaugh signed a three year deal with a team in Lithuania. Bryce Cotton lead the Australian league in scoring. That's a ll right though because Quin wouldn't play either one. He would just cheer on Clarkson chucking bricks.

Why even bother “developing” guys like Thomas, Doke, Oni, Morgan and hoping they turn into some legit bench players in two or three years, like how long it took us to “develop” Niang......when there have already been legit bench guys like Craig and Rivers just sitting out there and ready to play for you from day one? Not to mention Torrey Craig is probably the ceiling for Oni.

Georges Niang, I understand that this has been a rough shooting series for you. I understand that shooting will be up-and-down, and at any moment, you could start contributing via the 3-point shot.

But in every other aspect of your game, you can’t let your shooting struggles show. You have to be somewhat focused defensively — this is mindbogglingly silly defense.

lol

Like I said after the trade deadline DL should be fired.

He whiffed at the trade deadline. This team didn't need Matt Thomas. Shooting was already our strong suit. I wish I was wrong but it's playing out before our eyes.

The NBA was the most wide open this year than I've ever seen since watching the league in 1987. We are SO CLOSE it's frustrating. I love these guys personally. Even Niang. The guy is a great guy. The roster just needed some tweaks, and it was clear all season. DL blew it.

Royce O’Neale, you take on the responsibility of the team’s best offensive player. You are a tone-setter. If you’re engaged, if you can keep the opposition in front, the team can stay alive defensively. If they can just pick on you, Gobert can’t cover for every mistake.

So, jeez, man, this won’t do. Can’t let PG olé you like that. :D

How do we know that the Jazz didn't try to get any of the people you mentioned?

Sent from my moto z3 using JazzFanz mobile app

We don't know but we have to assume. In the end the roster could have been tweaked last season as well. This same issues were obvious last year.

I just find it hard to believe we couldn't have added anything better to our roster than we did.

Dennis Lindsey, you needed to build a roster with more flexibility. Look at the Clippers: they have different types of players for different situations. Need a game-reader? Play Rajon Rondo. Need a defensive ball pressure guy? Play Patrick Beverley. Need shooting? Play Luke Kennard.

Your roster lacks good options for Snyder to use. You have no point guard options behind Mike Conley besides two-way Trent Forrest — a point guard is exactly what this Jazz roster needs right now, as they struggle to execute a hint at an offense when the going gets tough. Point guards are useful for that, but the Jazz don’t have any right now.

It also would be nice if you could play switchable basketball, just some small-ball to give the Clippers another look. But who would play the five in such a situation? Ersan Ilyasova, I guess? It’s a reach to play him playoff minutes when he was out of the NBA for most of the season.

Instead, you used a first-round pick on Udoka Azubuike and your trade deadline acquisition was Matt Thomas — in a season in which you said your goal was championship contention. Neither of those players filled holes on the roster, instead only tripling down on facets of the game your team already excelled in. Phoenix, meanwhile, showed how to use the end of the roster on potentially playable players, guys like Cam Payne and E’Twaun Moore and Torrey Craig.

This is my biggest complaint about Mitchell's passing. I get that he is short so this isnt the most comfortable pass, but that's an easy lob that doesnt have to be thrown hard. Tons of small PG's hit this pass. It shouldn't be hard and it's 100x better than the BS shot he put up moments later. I feel like he misses this pass to Gobert at least once per game.

It honestly looks like he’s ignoring Gobert on purpose. No wonder why the two have issues.

I have no problem calling out the front office but there is a difference in calling them out and being in fantasy land. And the fantasy land or completely unrealistic scenario happens a lot. I loved the Favors pick up but in retrospect he has not been near as much as we needed. I think we could have done better with that money that what we are getting from Favs.
