What's new

Another somewhat convoluted proposal

Good call. Agreed.
You would feel sorry them. I wouldn't. That's ok.

I did feel sorry for lebron when his property was vandalized last week though.

Not gonna feel sorry if lebrons employer makes changes he doesn't like though. He can play basketball for some other employer or change professions.
I thought it sucked when the nba enforced a dress code. Didn't feel sorry for the players though.

My employer makes changes to my job that I don't like all the time. I can quit just like nba players can.

Is this argument still going on? Or am i so tired from lack of sleep I've started hallucinating?

I think it's done.
Get some sleep dude

I think it's done.
Get some sleep dude

I wish! I'm at work now got three more nights to go, still can't sleep more than two or three hours a day. Picked a great time to give up coffee, sugar and cigarettes. Maybe I should get on to heroin? I hear its moreish...

Nah, you are wrong here. I would feel sorry for lebron if his kid died.
I care what happens to other people.

If someone said to me that they would pay me tons of money to play basketball with the stipulation that I don't get to choose my team then I think that would be awesome. If someone felt sorry for me for that reason then I would think they were an idiot.

Do you feel sorry for jazz players who don't get to wear headbands? Other players get to but not jazz players. That just ain't right.

What about rookies who don't get to choose where they play?

How about military who don't get to choose where they get to live?

What about byu students who have to adhere to the honor code?

If your bleeding heart bleeds so badly for nba basketball players them I may assume you ate perpetually sad for damn near everyone in the world who has it worse than them.

Your analogy doesn't work fish. Of course you'd go play anywhere for millions because right now, you can't do that.

What would you do fish if your boss told you that you can't make any more money than what you make now, but you have to move to some ****ty location and if you don't move, your only job options are jobs that pay 100's of percent less than what you currently make?

So, to compare it to you, let's say you make $50,000. You'd have to move somewhere you don't like to continue making that and if you don't make that, your only other job options would put you at around $5 a year.

I'd bet you wouldn't be so willing to do that.

Heroin would help you sleep.

I used to use ambien

Would that $50,000 per year allow me to live wherever I want, hell have multiple houses in multiple cities that I like, allow me to buy whatever I want and make more than 99% of the people on the planet? Do I get to play basketball in order to get the money and lifestyle?
If so then I would be cool with that.

Imo money matters in relation to the quality of the job and whether I feel sorry for someone who has to do that particular job. For that matter the actual work being done matters as well (playing basketball).

This discussion is about whether or not I would feel sorry for nba basketball players making tons of money but not getting to choose where they play. I would not feel sorry for them.

Hell, so far Rodney hood, Gordon hayward, and a few other jazz players are currently living the scenario being discussed.

I promise you that I have never felt sorry for Gordon hayward or Rodney Hood so far in their nba careers. Neither of them have been able to choose what team they play for.
Poor ********.

Oh and your analogy doesn't work anyway cause they could leave the nba and play for millions for some other league anyway. They don't have to go from $50,000 to $5 dollars.

Hey Fish, the actual equivalent would be $50k to 5k.

The highest paid foreign player makes roughly 10% of what the current highest paid NBA player makes.

So yes, they have the option of leaving and losing 90% of their salary.

But like I said, if you're ok with other people losing rights, then you're ok with yourself and everybody else losing rights.

Choosing to playing in the NBA is their choice and almost everyone who can make that choice do. Part of that choice is giving up your right to choose where you live. Just like people in the military or other jobs that you get assigned a location for. People will choose those jobs despite not having certain choices. Every job makes you give up certain things that might not be your choice. Most people don't have a choice what time they work at, they give up that right for the job.

Also NBA players could play in other leagues around the world and could be the highest paid players in those leagues. But even if the drop off was to decrease their income by 90% they are all earning more than 99% and still earning in a year more than most people will in their lives. An NBA player should easily play for 1 year save their money and live off that income comfortably for the rest of their lives at a higher standard than 99% of this country that has one of the highest standard of living in the world.

I have asked you many times what right they would be losing. You never answer.

Hayward has never been able to choose where he plays. Do you feel sorry for him?

Are you absolutely freaking dense? THE WHOLE DAMN CONVERSATIOM HAS BEEN ABOUT WHAT RIGHT THEY LOSE! Good grief Fish.

I'll try this again. NBA players currently have the right to choose where they play once they enter free agency. This is viewed as a chance for players to have a choice since they do not initially have one entering the league, and for teams to improve/make up for mistakes. If this were to be taken away, they would lose the current right they have to choose where they play once they are able to.

No, I do not feel bad for the players currently drafted to teams, because I know that later on they will have the right to choose amongst interested teams. If that were to be taken away, that would change my opinion.

So they lost the right to wear what they wanted when the dress code was enforced.

What you call losing rights I call rule change.

My job has rule changes all the time. It sucks. It's a job.

If that were the rule in the nba then you could stay and deal with it or leave. No big deal.

They lost the right to enter the nba straight from high school. Losing rights.
Poor guys.
There have been new rules for drug testing over the years. Losing rights.
A 24 second clock was added. Lost the right to have a possesion longer than 24 seconds.
There will always be rule changes. Such is life. They have a choice to abide by the rules or bounce. Pretty much all of them will always choose the nba.

So you don't feel bad that they don't have a right to choose where they play like in their first 7 ish years.

After that point the feel bads kick in.

Sometimes rule changes benefit players too.

Salary cap goes up and now the owners have to pay more money. Players get a higher percentage of the profits.

I had the right to use my phone at work a few weeks ago. That right was taken from me.
I lost the right to pull into my parking spot front first. I'm forced to back into my spot.
I lost the right to plan something on a Saturday since I get scheduled to work every Saturday even though I might not be needed. They end up letting me know on Thursday or Friday whether I have to work saturday or not.

But then there is the burden of what to spend all that money on. Luxury's disappointments.

True. Sad

Really when I think about it I'm very fortunate to have no money and very few employment options. All that money, the prospect of retiring in my 30's, after a career playing a game, I don't think I could handle that burden.

Cavs are making a great run, glad I got out of bed.

I want the cavs to win so bad.
The warriors bug me.
