What's new

Ante tomic coming next season.

He deserves to get paid. compare Tomic to this years Free Agents at center

Greg Monroe is not really a center. Gortat and Spencer Hawes will be looking for too much $$$, then the rest of the crop is arguably ****tier than Tomic (Andray Blatche, The Birdman, Steimsma)

I don't know why anyone would question/worry about this. If they don't bring him over he's obviously not doing anything to help the team. If he does come over he's an asset as either a player or a trade chip. Or if he's a wunderkind it means we can maybe move Kanter to move up and grab Jabari or Wiggy or Embid. Win-win-win.

If this is true than someone has to go. I expect Gobert to come back better than last year. The kid has a little moxy and he was pissed he didn't play last year. What this means is that the Jazz are going to play either Gobert/Tomic at the center and Favors and Kanter at the PF. Small ball will be Kanter/Favors. I certainly think their are minutes but some guys are not going to be happy.

I also see this as an indication the Jazz are going to either make a trade to move up. Package either Kanter or Favors (most likely Kanter) or they are going to use their picks on wings/PG. Jazz need depth in the backcourt.

I thought I saw where the Jazz said they now see Favors as a Center, not a PF. I will look for the link Did anyone else see it? If so, then this changes the thinking about the available bigs significantly.

Yeah, beginning to doubt Kanter's future with the Jazz right now. Hmm.

Gobert was raw as ****, but he makes plays. Gobert impacted the game in spurts, and showed ability to alter shots, and finish strong around the rim.

Tomic is a speed bump on defense, but very skilled on offense. Tomic and Favors might work.

If Ante comes over it seems like Kanter is gone.

When? Being wide open and dunking doesn't count. He had trouble getting off hook shots against players who where much shorter than him.

Also, don't think Tomic means Kanter is gone. You aren't going to bring Tomic over and have him be a starter. Think that it might mean that drafting a big is gone though.

He's not coming over officially. That article quoted Walt Perrin when he said the Jazz would look into it this summer. They obviously didn't translate it too well though making it sound like the Jazz would definitely bring tomic over.

I hope they buy him out and bring him over. Tomic is still only 27, has gotten bigger and stronger, and has improved his overall rebounding and defensive game. He's really grown over the past few years. Two solid years have shown that he's ready IMO. If Snyder gets Messina on board, then it would probably help the Jazz convince him to come and help with the transition to the NBA.

Don't see anyway Jazz pass up an 18 year old phenom like Gordon or Vonleh to bring over a 27 year Tomic who still is questionable NBA caliber.

What makes you say that Tomic absolutely can't or absolutely shouldn't start? You think arguably the best non-NBA player in the world is going to finally decide to hop over here so he can be the 4th big on a bad team?

Just see Tomic playing a Splitter role, where he is part of a 3-man rotation, playing 25-ish mpg. Don't think he can't/shouldn't start, but think it would be a mistake to rely on him to play over 30 mpg just because I think his lack of physical mass will be exposed. Seems like the Jazz would be more willing to do that with Kanter/Favors, than they would Favors/Draftee.

Probably because he doesn't think Tomic is better than Kanter or Favors. I doubt he is either. Not starting doesn't make him the 4th big either.

I think it'd be good because the Jazz need could use some legitimate depth at this point. Not sure why bringing in a possibly actual NBA player into the rotation means you have to get rid of one of them as well. The Jazz can stand to add a couple.

You know Splitter generally starts and was a starter when he was brought over, right?

... So that they can have four?
