Any chance we see the Big Three start?

Despite the acquisition of Marvin Williams, do you think Ty and his staff are considering starting the trio of Millsap-Favors-Jefferson up front and bringing Williams off the bench? Marvin seemed like our obvious solution at the small forward spot but if he does start, that means one of our big three are coming off the bench and quite frankly the one who should, Al, won't.

These three guys are all better than Williams imo. Obviously Paul doesn't stretch the floor like Marvin would but you see my point. We were so damn successful last season when the big three started, I'd be excited as hell to see that again.

Tinsley/Watson, Burks, Carroll, Williams, Kanter off the bench.

Al just needs to get it through his thick skull that he shouldn`t hang on to the ball for 7 seconds ever time he touches it. It makes for very boring basketball to watch, no matter the outcome.

Do KOC and Ty have the guts to tell Paul he is coming off the bench? Will he accept that role knowing on other teams he could be a starter? If Paul won't accepth that role will we trade him or just ride out next year? I know what I hope for, but whether all people involved are willing to do the hard things is the question.
I just hope we don't waste another year of Favor's contract. By the time we get to starting him his contract will be expiring.

Ty started last year with Millsap on the bench, and Favors wasn't ready to start. Millsap is perfect to come off the bench, and Favors is ready to start this year. Ty would be crazy not to start Favors and bring Millsap off the bench.

If Millsap get's extended, then I think he gladly comes off the bench, but considering this is a contract year for him he's not going to want that without the extension.

That's a good point. Come on KOC, get on an extension for Millsap!

I had not considered that, thanks for pointing it out. However, Milsap has been so insistant that he is a pf, a starter, and almost an all-star that I don't think 'gladly' is quite the right word. Still worthwhile for KOC to explore.

Where is the evidence of Millsap's "insistance" [your spelling] to start?

Like everyone, he wants to start--and play.

I don't recall that he's pouted much. Maybe the media has played it up a bit when his role was in question.

Millsap has been a beneficiary of a play-for-performance philosophy (and then some).
There have been times when he's clearly struggled against taller lineups but still got the nod.

So let him earn it.

I think the best starting lineup is Favors-Millsap-Marvin.

But if you think that benching Millsap is unlikely, imagine subbing in Big Al.

I'm in the camp as seeing Sap as anything but a locker room cancer. If it's best for the team for him to come off the bench, he'll deal with it. If he deserves to start, but doesn't, and the team suffers for it (hypothetically) then he should be pissed. That's how every high-character + competitor should react in those situations. To suggest Millsap is more of a prima donna, rather than less of one, is absurd.

First, no. Millsap is not a SF. Marvin is a SF.

Second, If you think Al should start over Millsap, you are crazy. Millsap is the much better player. Just look how badly the Jazz struggled last year when Al missed four games and Favors and Millsap manned the middle...Oh, what?!? They didn't struggle at all?!? Al is the perfect sixth man. When you run your bench team out there, you usually run a lot of iso plays, and rely on one or two guys to carry you while your starters rest. Who is better than running iso plays, completely ignoring his teammates, and yet be effective? Big Al. That being said, it is a moot point. Either Al or Millsap will be gone before the season starts.

You can't have Favors coming off the bench, when he showed he can handle big minutes and be very effective on BOTH ends of the floor (you could make an argument that he is already the best big man on this team...and the argument would be between Millsap and Favors. Al is clearly your third best big). AND, neither Al or Millsap will agree to coming off the bench in a contract year. If benched either one, you would have unrest, and trade demands. Hell, if I were Favors or his agent, I would demand a trade if Corbin tried to bring me off the bench.

Favors is too good to bench. Millsap and Al are playing for their future and will not accept a bench role. Someone HAS to go.

Why is it better to have Millsap come off the bench? He is clearly the better big than Al, he fits with Favors perfectly offensively, and if Al comes off the bench, he can run iso's all day long with the scrubs.

Paul averaged 17 and 9 with 13 shots. Al averaged 19 and 9 with 17 shots. If you gave Paul 4 more shots, he would get two more buckets, bringing his average up to 21 pts. Not to mention that they averaged the same number of assists with Paul getting significantly less touches. Then throw in that Paul is a better rebounder, a better shot blocker, a better "steals" guy, quicker, more athletic, and the list goes on. You don't start Al over Paul.
