Any chance we see the Big Three start?

Why is it better to have Millsap come off the bench? He is clearly the better big than Al, he fits with Favors perfectly offensively, and if Al comes off the bench, he can run iso's all day long with the scrubs.

Paul averaged 17 and 9 with 13 shots. Al averaged 19 and 9 with 17 shots. If you gave Paul 4 more shots, he would get two more buckets, bringing his average up to 21 pts. Not to mention that they averaged the same number of assists with Paul getting significantly less touches. Then throw in that Paul is a better rebounder, a better shot blocker, a better "steals" guy, quicker, more athletic, and the list goes on. You don't start Al over Paul.

I'd rather start Millsap too (Jefferson would dominate backups) but didn't Al have more rebounds and blocks than Paul? Per minute even.

Nope. HAS. You can't have all three, because you can't start all three. The biggest reason? If you keep all three, you are wasting TWO assets. One of your bigs and Kanter. Kanter needs playing time, and if Al or Millsap could bring you a player or pick that can help you win, you need to get it. That will help the Jazz out more.

He might have. I guess I don't count blocks that the pg is so surprised that Al decided to step into the lane that it throws him off and Al gets a block because he was just standing there. Maybe a better way to put it is that Millsap is a better help defender. That is what I was thinking of more than blocks.

And with rebounds, Al might get more of the balls that fall to him uncontested, but how many times at the end of games did Paul come down with a rebound that two players from the other side had their hands on? How many rebounds does Al lose to a 5"9 guy who tries?

This is a pet peeve of mine. Where did I say Sap shouldn't start? I gave two hypotheticals, both beginning with 'if' ... one if he were to start, one if he doesn't.

I agree with you completely...I hate it when I write something, they don't read it all, and go off on a rant. Sorry. Repped for your trouble.

Let me ask you a question. What % chance do you give it that we play next year with Sap and Al both on the team?

Higher than I want. Probably 70% chance they are both here. *sad*

Okay, I'll end my pursuit of being a jerk with this post ..

If you feel there's a great chance they'll both be here, then it can't be 'HAS' to go .. but rather 'needs' or 'should' go.

Where is the evidence of Millsap's "insistance" [your spelling] to start?

Really? In the last 3 years Milsap has insististited at every turn that he is the starter. He has handled it very well, I never said that he is a problem child or cancer, but I don't believe that Milsap is the kind of guy that will take some money and stop believing he is a starter or stop wanting to be. If the Jazz do convince him to try it, I believe he would only reluctantly agree because he would still believe that he could play his way back to being a starter.

This board is really having trouble today with the various forms of 'insist.'

I think Burks would fit better in a starting lineup than Hayward along side the W's.

Sap is an obvious spark off the bench too. Al is going to be moved.

Williams
Burks
Williams
Favors
Kanter

Gordon and Sap with major bench minutes. I'm ready to see somebody gasping in pain on the ground after a hard, hard Kanter screen, and Burks dishing from the paint to guys that can hit the shot. We could go small by subbing Kanter for either Sap or Gordon.

I had not considered that, thanks for pointing it out. However, Milsap has been so insistant that he is a pf, a starter, and almost an all-star that I don't think 'gladly' is quite the right word. Still worthwhile for KOC to explore.
Interesting points. That would be the best-case scenario, and he doesn't seem to be a selfish kinda player. What complicates all this is Favors does NOT want to playe C.

There might be less than 10 assists combined from that starting five.

Marvin Williams should be the sixth man. That was his role in college and it led him to being the overall #2 pick. I think he would thrive in that role again.

C- Jefferson
PF - Favors
SF - Millsap
SG - Hayward
PG - Mo Williams
6th - Marv Williams

That is a Top 6 seed in the west for me, with OKC, Lakers, Spurs, Clippers, Memphis at 1-5 and Utah fighting with Denver and Dallas for the #6 spot.

the reason that sap has said over and over again that he believes he should start is because HE SHOULD START.

paul is our best player right now. might not be in 2-3 years, but right now paul does more to help this team win than al, derrick, gordon... you name it. why anybody thinks that you should take the jazz's best player and relegate him to a bench role is completely and utterly beyond me.

my order of preference:
1) trade al
2) if you can't trade al, start sap+fave and bring al off the bench
3) since #2 likely won't happen given his salary and the fact that they'll want to keep him attractive as a trade asset, start sap + al. sorry derrick, but your time will come, and you can still get 28 mpg this year, a 33% increase over last year's minutes, and have plenty of opportunities to grow your game until the jazz can finally dump al.
