What's new

Anyone sign up for Obamacare yet?

I'm still in touch with people at the prior company I was with. They experienced annual increases in cost insurance of about 6% prior to O care. This year they were just told the increase would be 40%.

Someone is paying for those lower costs some people here are experiencing.

Some people got huge increases two or three years ago. Some have seen steady increases over the last 5-6 years, with no big jumps. Are those ObamaCare as well?

I would have to think that if they are experiencing that high of costs, then either their employer is not being smart about who they use for coverage, or the person themselves is not being smart in shopping around for better coverage. I got the very best plan available on the healthcare exchange, and it was less than a 40% increase would have been on our previous employer provided healthcare. In fact, is was only marginally more than the employer provided coverage, and the deductible is less than half with the aca coverage I bought on the exchange. It definitely pays to put just a little work into saving some money.

Or the employer is trying to force people to opt-out of the plan entirely and get coverage elsewhere.

I am in the process of signing up for it. We needed to add maternity coverage to our current plan, and I went to compare the cost of doing that or signing up for the socialist medicine that requires all ovaries to be covered regardless, and Obama saved me $411 per month. Without the subsidies from tax breaks, it would have only saved us $389 per month.

I have seen a lot of people say that they are going to have to pay way more, but it seems like once coverage was available, they kind of quieted down on the subject. I wonder if they found out that the coverage is actually more affordable than they thought?

I can't speak for others, but I am glad that we were able to save some money on my family's coverage.
My insurance will be going up $245 per month once I am forced to have a plan that works under Obama care. My insurance informed me that we can delay that change for one year though so it won't start till Jan 2015. But yes I am pissed off about it. I'm really hoping and praying that it fails by then and gets repealed.
.
FWIW that is a 60% increase from the amount I paid this year. I may have to go on that ****ing exchange just to afford insurance now. I am still hoping to wait till it fails.

Is your coverage changing? Like is your deductible going down or something like that?

Nope. Same coverage, same plan. There is one little thing they are adding that is required by Obama care. "Essential health benefits" is what is being added by requirement of the ACA. Whatever the **** that is. Apparently it's worth $3000 dollars a year though. Nothing else in my plan changed at all.

Essential health benefits are things like maternity coverage and preventative care. You should go look on the exchange, because there are less expensive plans that are good for like 3-4 people for less than $300 per month.

Curious what the difference is between the cost of your current plan with and without maternity coverage. You're moving to a system that socializes that heavy cost, so I'm not surprised that you're getting a better deal there. I'd recommend Obamacare to anyone who is pregnant or planning to be soon.

Also, I'm interested by the examples, but from what I understand it's hard to compare the plans that you're seeing in, say, Wyoming, with the ones you'd see in Virginia. For me, family of 6, $12.7k deductible/max bronze plan runs $809/month. I'll think I'll take my chances with Dr. Nick.

Do you all get to keep your physicians (are they in-network), or has anyone seen any change there?

It's the same network so yes on that. Same company, just through the exchange.

The coverage for three of is without maternity was $489 per month, with maternity on the old plan was like $881. The new plan with the aca is $468 per month or something like that, so even less than before and covers maternity.

I actually bought the coverage for Utah because we are in the process of buying a house there.

I can't wait until we all realize that having an employer tied to your healthcare is a scam. We vote for a single payer system which combines Medicare and Medicaid then expands them to cover all of us. Our taxes will raise but I doubt by eliminating for profit insurance companies that care about their stockholder and bottomline that it will inflate like we are currently seeing. Then we can demand our companies to pay more or a portion of the money they were using to pay for part of our healthcare like they currently are paying. Here is a link to Vermont which is moving forward with a single payer system or as close as they can with health insurance lobbyist in the pockets of our politicians. https://www.occupydemocrats.com/vermont-makes-promise-people-video/
