What's new

Are we getting Gay?

I would be OK with Rudy Gay at the right price.
Jazz need firepower and he has it.
But it has not even been six months since a torn achilles.
Jazz would have too take a close look at this.

Why not? If he gets healthy and looks solid, we could end up flipping him in a deal.

It's all about assets, and on the cheap, Gay could certainly be an asset.

This thread was good for a few really satisfying laughs (kudos to the quipsters) on a day when we all needed some. However, from a serious standpoint I'd rather be talking about a guy that seems to have escaped everybody's radar and that's Luc Mbah a Moute. I think the reason for his relative obscurity in FA is because he's a flow guy that's never padded his own resume, but rather let's the game come to him. And let's not forget that he started for a team that also started THREE perennial All Stars in Paul, Griffin and Jordan and one guy that was paid to chuck in Redick. No injury concerns to worry about. He averaged just over six points per game last season but did that on a .505 shooting (made over half his shots) with .391 from three. Had the best defensive rating on the team in year one and second to Paul in year two https://hoopshabit.com/2017/06/27/los-angeles-clippers-2016-17-report-cards-luc-mbah-moute/. And the best thing about this guy is that we probably get him for the MLE meaning we don't have to make any major moves to stay out of tax purgatory.

Why is he better than Ingles? We have Ingles. . .

I don't envy the google image search it did to find this picture...

Not a competition, we already have Ingles and need another good three to share the minutes.
Hood.

This is a rebuild year. Hood needs to get 30 mins. Dante needs to get 25 minimum. Same with Mitchell. Ingles backs up the 2/3.

We don't need a guy who isn't going to be part of the new look Jazz in 3-4 years. All cap space needs to be preserved for next summer when Jazz from Day 1 can go after a FA forward.

Who is that free agent we will be targeting?

Trade or FA will be better than anyone left on the market right now. Who knows? Maybe it's a trade using our probable lottery pick. Maybe DL trades for someone at the deadline. Just need to avoid making a multi-year commitment to a D-level player.

We already did our rebuild, I don't like the idea of going backwards with this team and all the pieces in place. Nobody's getting any younger and this could be JJ's last good season. And who knows what will be of Favors after this season. Anyway I believe Mbah a Moute is as good a player for the price as we're ever going to find.
