Are we onto something here with Evans? (Ibaka Lite?)

- His shot (both FT and FG) seems to be coming along slowly

Dare I say Ibaka-Lite in a couple of years?

Thoughts?

...with a 24 second clock in the NBA....we don't want him to wait too long before developing his shot! I just hope he doesn't end up in the AND1 league in a couple of years!

If he could put on some wieght and keep his "hops" than I like him as a back up PF. Can dunk, block shots, alter peoples shots...
Look at his build. Maybe he has the potential to put on a few more pounds, but he's never going to put on a lot of weight. Over the course of his entire career, was AK47 ever able to put on any weight and still maintain his "hops?"

are people still waiting for Evans to bulk up? ****, man.

Waiting for it is not the right phrase. Perhaps "Wishing he would" is better. I wish he would bulk up and develop into that backup PF after a Sap/Al trade but I am not counting/waiting for it. I do not think it will happen and that is to bad.

I know Jazzfanz has this obsession with making players into players they aren't.

Burks can play PG, just put him at PG.
Kanter should be able to jump if we put him into a training program.
Evans should be able to gain weight if he workouts harder.

Players are who they are for the most part. They aren't going to go through some physical mutation or develop a entirely way of thinking about the game over the course of 1 summer.

2 out of 3 are completely accurate.

Bulking up has no effect on your vertical. Obviously if you are a fat piece of **** then yes but with Evan's metabolism bulking up isn't going to change his vertical. The dude is naturally lean, I went from 145 freshman year of high school to 180 senior year and my vertical actually increased...

People improve all the time, even people at the age of 25.
It could happen if they tried.

Improvement on what they can already do, yes. Adding small things like a new move, yes. Adding completely new skills, probably not.

Millsap is one of the more rare players that I can think off who added a ton to his game, that weren't really present at the beginning of his career.

At this point, you can bank on Evans having this physical profile for the peak of his playing career.

He is a guy you use in certain matchups and not in others. That simple. That said, with the rise of small-ball, there will be opportunities for him to play at the PF. But he will continue to ride the pine as long as we have Jefferson and Millsap.

I agree that he will have limited minutes due to his being a very situational guy. That is to bad because I love watching the kid play. If only...

Evans is a player who is probably going to max out at 20 mpg, if a team has to play him that much. He is best in 10-15 when his energy expended can equal or overtake his lack of power and skills. If you play him too much he will get exposed as he wears down. If you play him just the right amount of time, his energy, athletic ability, and knack for the ball will make him a great player (relative to his minutes usage).

My thoughts on Evans is AK47 jr. The best part is we already know what he is and what he isn't and can look forward to the next 3 years of not complaining about how much he makes. We can just enjoy the show...

Would love to see Evans just get REGULAR minutes, as he does impact games. A smaller player with his hops, IF he plays smart by keeping in motion, can defend a bigger guy in the post by fronting him, or coming at him from different angles. And on offense he is so wiry he's very difficult to box out. Problem is we typically don't play that style, chosing to man-up in the paint. That'll never work for Jeremy against most NBA PF's...
And with his quicks, NO ONE would be able to touch that little hook shot he showed off today.
Biggest block to Jeremy getting regular minutes at PF? Paul Millsap, like it or not...

Wrong. Bulking up does effect your vert. It just depends where your limit is for your body type.

Thats why basketball players are skinny. Its also why you dont see body builders doing high jump. You can add some muscle and still jump high, but there is a limit.

Who care if Evans is skinny. Its a skinny mans game.

Jesus. Can we lock this freakin' thread? Has the OP watched these two guys play? The rookie Nicholson did whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted on Evans the other day as Jeremy tried to play the 4...which was an utter fiasco defensively. Ibaka has 40+ pounds on Evans despite being two years younger than the Human Beanpole and is a borderline defensive player of the year type candidate as a 4/5.

Mods, if you give a **** about your responsibility to the board, lock this trainwreck and have a drink on me.
