And there may not be. Favors will be an UFA. As such, I think he only has value to:This is the preface to “there just weren’t any deals out there.”
I would add that taking on a 2-3 year bad deal might be a bigger disaster than letting Favs walk. Because of his cheap salary and the fact he'll be a RFA, Hood potentially has 29 suitors, while Favs' pool is very small. The Jazz will make moves. Letting Favors and Hood walk in free agency would be a disaster. Re-signing one or both to a stupid amount of money and screwing up our flexibility would be an even bigger disaster. Moves HAVE to be made. There is a 0% chance of this deadline coming and going with the Jazz doing nothing.

This is a very reasonable reply, You could very well be right. In the back of my mind, however, I wonder whether Cleveland really wants to go to the finals to lose the Golden State yet again, or whether they might just prefer at this point to begin the rebuild while they can still get something for LeBron before he leaves.A #9ish pick isn't really a franchise altering asset, especially in a 7 deep draft. It is better to have it than not to have it. But if you have a team capable of getting to the finals, it is something you flip for help now, every single time. Basically Cleveland has to place everything not immediately necessary in their rotation on the table and come up with the best deal possible. It is a long deep hole they will be in after Lebron leaves, no need to hasten that along, Jerry Krause style. . .
I was listening to the open floor podcast the other day where the hosts argued that it makes sense for Cleveland to deal LeBron to Houston and that LeBron would want to go there out of all of his other options. Actually, I found their arguments compelling. Plus, I think it would make one hell of a rivalry and a great Western Conference finals to see Houston with LeBron going up against Golden State. I’m not sure what Houston can offer for LeBron, but This would certainly make things in the NBA very interesting.I think the Cavs are the exception, they need to swing big now.
Lets face facts. The Cavs are gonna need a whole lot more than a top 10 pick next year to pick themselves back up after Lebron leaves. So what if it stalls their rebuild by a year, they'll have the next 2 or 3 #1s anyway. They are in for a long long rebuild.

Favors will not be easy to trade given his contract situation. And there are things worse than letting him walk. This is the preface to “there just weren’t any deals out there.”

I agree with you, but in the current NBA there is no team that will challenge Golden State. This at least provides a legitimate challenger to the 4 to 5 year Golden State dynasty, which is almost inevitable moving forward, unless something radical and unexpected happens.I guess it depends on what you mean by interesting. Having a few teams with the biggest stars makes the NBA boring to me. Parity may not be the ideal but neither is having 1-2 teams that have a chance.

I’ve been sayin moves would be scarce for a while and been met with “oh there will for sure be deals lolz” but we’ll soon that narrative real quick when confronted with reality. I’m 50/50 on Favors being dealt.Favors will not be easy to trade given his contract situation. And there are things worse than letting him walk.
I don't want JR Smith, but he is only due $14.7 for next year and that's it because 2019-20 is non-guaranteed. I bet the Cavs do this deal in a heartbeat after the Hill trade:
Favors and Hood for JR Smith, Osman and the Brooklyn pick.

In all likelihood, the trade saves Cleveland money this year and next year. Hood is better than JR Smith and Favors can be very helpful for their post. In two trades, they would have added a PG/SG, a SG/SF and a PF/C who all help their matchups against Golden State. They aren't going to be able to find any other deal where they dump JR and add two useful players.
Boston says hello. Best defense in the league. Best player may return in March. Split the season series with GS (and almost swept them).Well right no now only 1 team has a chance.
