Baton Rouge Police Killing a 37-year-old black man at point blank range

If you cannot accept five seconds of audible warnings an police hesitation with a gun to the toters head as proof than nothing will convince your bias preconceived notions. Typical response from cop an gun haters.
Nothing in this post, or this entire conversation with you, matches reality.

So i tried to upload an picture from the washington post showing the statistics for police shooting so far this year but i am unable to load it.
Anywho... There were 509 police shootings that resulted in civilian deaths from the start of this year up until july.
484 were male. 25 female. 238 were white. 123 were black. 79 hispanic. 46 unknown. 23 other race. 282 of the victims had a gun on them. 88 had knife. 35 were in a vehicle as their "weapon". 22 had a toy weapon. 35 were unarmed. 27 unknown. 20 other. 385 showed no signs or had history of mental illness. 124 of them did.

So the most common person shot by a policeman is a white male with no mental problems carrying a gun.

I found that to be interesting.

Regardless of the findings...
Good on ya for researching your own data.

Btw. I didn't really have a point or agenda with that post. (After all there are way more white people in the country than any other race) just found it interesting.

The best way tho is to go through them on a case-by-case basis and see how many of the white cop-killings were under similar circumstances to the black ones we've seen all over the news over the past couple of years. Also, keep in mind that minorities are referred to as "minorities" for a reason-- blacks make up 12.3% of America's population, in comparison to >60% of non-Hispanic whites. The ratios are off.

See below.
You would also have to get the statistics and keep in mind that black people commit a huge amount of the crimes in the country to compared to whites as well. And cops seem to **** with minorities more than white people (at least that is the perception) so it seems that there would be more opportunities for more minorities to get shot by the po po

Lots of other variables involved. I just found the raw data interesting.

Incarceration rates are different-- but i'm not sure i buy the argument that black commit a huge amount of 'crime' relative to other racial groups. For example whites use the same amount of drugs but blacks get incarcerated more for it.

Regardless, even if you're right, I'm not sure how that should impact the numbers of the study you listed.

I guess it just wasnt to me. Obviously the population majority *should* be the majority of those being killed. When you look at prison statistics and see that 40% of ppl in prison are black, that's when you know that you should be thinking "um, wtf"

There's no question, at all, about black vs, white crime.

The debate should be about privilege.

Education, money, environment, etc...

Switch the circumstances and skin color and I think you reverse the skin stats.

I recognize these things. I only hate on ANYONE that uses these things as life-excuses. Real or not.

Well of course not. You are as predictable and close minded as one brow when it comes to race stuff

PKJones singing music to my ears. Yeah, me too. But I do think that there's something to be said about those who abuse the system-- the few that I've met feel like there's never really any other option there for them. It isn't FUN to barely scrap by on hand-outs. You don't just wake up one day and decide to take that lifestyle-- life kicks you to the curb, repeatedly, and you feel like that it's all you'll ever be able to accomplish. That's been my experience working with the homeless.

But that's what it's all about though. Levelling the playing field for all. Recognizing where it's not equal, and trying to do something about it. We're all brothers here, and we all bleed the same blood. Fear the same fears, experience the same joys, laugh at the same jokes.

I think you're painting me as a bit more aggressive than I've actually been in this thread. I'm just speaking honestly here, I'm not attacking anyone.

I don't believe "leveling the playing field" is the answer.
That sounds like all sorts of artificial.
It's hard work.

Look where, for example, blacks are today versus whether they were 100 years ago.
Don't steal from them, you, us, or others. Make it about clawing your way and make it sustainable.
Handouts aren't.

Truth is whites aren't holding blacks back. It's whites creating more opportunity for blacks.
Period.

Blacks mostly know this and appreciate the progress, imo.

If there's a race not progressing it's the American Indians. And, again, it's not whites conspiring against them.

Stop the excuses and move forward.

I love all people and will support them all with what I can.. But I have ZERO ears for excuses that are overly general.

Take up the White Man's burden, Send forth the best ye breed
Go bind your sons to exile, to serve your captives' need;
To wait in heavy harness, On fluttered folk and wild—
Your new-caught, sullen peoples, Half-devil and half-child.

Cute.

I'm not trying to impose anything on anyone.
But nice patent response.

Any original ideas?

All this reminds me of that sickening scene in 'Crash' ... with the well off black couple and the white cop sexually molesting her with that body search.

I know it's just a movie, but that scene to me was really hard to watch...

Anyone else saw that scene?
