Baton Rouge Police Killing a 37-year-old black man at point blank range

All this reminds me of that sickening scene in 'Crash' ... with the well off black couple and the white cop sexually molesting her with that body search.

I know it's just a movie, but that scene got me really hard...

Anyone else saw that scene?
Fixed

Thanks for sharing.

Incarceration rates are different-- but i'm not sure i buy the argument that black commit a huge amount of 'crime' relative to other racial groups. For example whites use the same amount of drugs but blacks get incarcerated more for it.

Regardless, even if you're right, I'm not sure how that should impact the numbers of the study you listed.

I guess it just wasnt to me. Obviously the population majority *should* be the majority of those being killed. When you look at prison statistics and see that 40% of ppl in prison are black, that's when you know that you should be thinking "um, wtf"

It's not even close. IIRC blacks are about 10 times more likely to commit murder than whites. The reason for it has everything to do with our history and us continuing to send so many young black men to crime school(prison). That said, it is just factually incorrect to state that blacks as a group do not commit significantly more crime.

Well then...

Do these movies end with the wisdom needed as to how to deal with our current plights?

I have a tough time with white people telling minorities how they should process their experiences, how they should feel, what they should think. I've done it myself in the past, and I'm ashamed when I've heard experiences that friends have had just because of skin color. It's taken time to learn that the world is completely different for other people than it is for me.

Welp, I guess the point of the movie or that particular scene might be that a white cop watching the movie might think twice when they pull up black people and how they should interact with them?

I dunno whether that goal is achieved or not though...

BTW in that scene the white cop was played superbly by Matt Dillon.

Cute.

I'm not trying to impose anything on anyone.
But nice patent response.

Any original ideas?

How's this for an original idea. It's ludicrous to give someone a head start in a race and then be shocked when they beat everyone else. The Lakers have a bigger fan base, bigger TV market, better climate, more diverse of a home city than the Jazz. They've won 9 titles during the time this team has been in Utah. The Jazz haven't won a single one. Is the Jazz organization lazy? Stupid? Do they just need to work harder? Are the odds not stacked against the Jazz? Does the fact that the Spurs managed to beat those odds make the Jazz odds any better? Does the fact that the Knicks have all the same advantages the Lakers do but they've managed to just piss them away change the Jazz odds? The outliers are just that, outliers. The reality is that the Jazz are at a severe disadvantage and any success will be a combination of both hard work and luck. Luck sure played a part in getting the Spurs where they are right now.

So we agree?

Sorta.

Brevity was lost, though.

We most certainly do not agree. You said outright that you don't want to see anything that would "level" the field. How then, do you expect those at a disadvantage to catch up?

How do you propose leveling the field?

I don't believe "leveling the playing field" is the answer.
That sounds like all sorts of artificial.
It's hard work.

Look where, for example, blacks are today versus whether they were 100 years ago.
Don't steal from them, you, us, or others. Make it about clawing your way and make it sustainable.
Handouts aren't.

Truth is whites aren't holding blacks back. It's whites creating more opportunity for blacks.
Period.

Blacks mostly know this and appreciate the progress, imo.

If there's a race not progressing it's the American Indians. And, again, it's not whites conspiring against them.

Stop the excuses and move forward.

I love all people and will support them all with what I can.. But I have ZERO ears for excuses that are overly general.
This is so true. Life is not fair, and it's particularly unfair to people who spend their energy seeking external excuses.

Leveling the playing field.

Most have some Eutopian view of this. Tax the Rich!

Give to the poor!

Most wealthy I know are already incredibly philanthropic. Lol at thinking that somehow giving the money to the government so they can hand it out is somehow better or has some multiplier.

Most everyone I know wants to help. But they are very sensitive to inefficiency. Government is nothing but a money pit, i.e.

So take it by force? Again, lol... this planet is a sieve for people with money to burn/move. Want to take it? Come find it. Want to tax me extra? I suddenly have no income. It's not hard, at all.

So it doesn't work.

Wealthy people generally and genuinely care. We are progressing, organically.

Be careful what you wish for.
