Big News Out of BYU??

It's so cute that you always seem to cry like a @#!*% any time Ute fans discuss your beloved BYU.
Not crying, Nancy. Just pointing out what a hard-on some Ute fans have for BYU. And it's also funny what a hard-on you and your butt-chum greg have on me. Seriously, just have the ceremony already fellas.

I have a "hard on" for you? That seriously funny considering that I've directly addressed you once or twice since this board made it's return.

It's even more funny when you consider that you actually took the time to take a few words out of one of my posts and use it as you sig for the past two months.

Obviously, I'm not the one with obsession issues, but nice try.

Denial aint just a river in Egypt, Leslie. There's nothing wrong with liking BYU. It's just kind of interesting how much Ute fans pay attention to BYU. That's all.

Now you being obsessed with other posters should definitely concern you. Good luck with that! And don't worry, your "partner" will be here soon to help the cause.

Wait, now you're stalking my sig and even have a stopwatch on how long I've had it? Creepy.

Ohhh Conan was feeling left out and had to drum up some BS so he felt included, two things first I think most of us are just discussing the situation in general and not just the other team (wont talk trash like saying they're drumming up media cause they feel left out just like Conan, nope wont say it) second and more importantly it's a GOOD thing there was no Y fans in the U PAC12 threads.

When November 27th rolls around, maybe you'd like to back up your words with a little wager?

Really? Maybe? Please.

SaltyWoog is already going to owe me $25.00 on the 28th -- I'd love to take your money as well. How many points are you going to give me?

Utah leaves the MWC and business as usual. BYU hints at leaving and chaos ensues.

C'mon, it's not as simple as that. Had it been BYU or TCU or Boise State leaving first, it would also have been "business as usual." The MWC would have just added the next biggest program they could get (like a Fresno State, Nevada or Utah State). But when you have the TWO biggest programs leaving - or threatening to leave - then chaos ensues.

BYU has a huge nationwide viewing audience. But they aren't irreplaceable on their own, unless the other big schools leave. And that's exactly what was about to happen.

But it's really a "mute" point. By 2014, many schedules and TV contracts will expire across the bigger conferences. There will be some major upheaval. As I mentioned before, I foresee four "Super Conferences" emerging. And I'm not the only one. Other national columnists have predicted the same. So whatever happens by Sept 1, it's probably just a 2-3 year stop gap. BYU, TCU and Boise State will be in different conferences by 2014. And the WAC and MWC - if they survive - will be "mid-major" conferences.

So you're saying Utah leaving had nothing to do with BYU's chaos? Right...

More like Utah left and BYU went into panic mode.
Of course that's going to be your myopic opinion. And you're welcome to it. But the fact is BYU has been considering independence for a long time. Clearly . . .

If they've been planning to go independent for a long time, and they still got totally owned by the MWC when they tried to implement the plan, then that is even worse than them panicking when Utah left. Clearly.

To be fair, I don't think anyone could foresee the MWC stepping up to the plate and covering all or part of the $10M combined that Fresno State and Nevada are going to owe the WAC, especially since both figured to play BYU in that preliminary schedule that was leaked.

I'm a Ute hater, but even I have to admit they came out WAY ahead in this one. Their future is assured; the Pac-12 or 14 or 16 - whatever it eventually becomes - ain't going nowhere. It will always be one of the major players. And you'd probably have to say the same about the Big 10 with Nebraska, Ohio State and Penn State. The Big 12 has a strong southern division with Oklahoma and the Texas schools, but the North is shaky with the defections of Nebraska and Colorado. With BYU cozying up to Texas, I wouldn't be surprised to see an invite within the next two seasons.

I would not be surprised either. But I do think BYU would have to agree to play on Sundays in order for any major conference, Big 12 included, to consider them. Even if they could work out the scheduling, the tv contracts for the conference would take a hit if they had to eliminate a certain day. Especially a day when most people are off work and watching tv.

I understand the need for Ute fans to always try to save face when Big Brother is involved and attempt fantastic spinjobs. But it's still a fact that Utah leaves the MWC and it's business as usual. BYU hints (just hints mind you) at leaving and chaos ensues. This is fact and the only thing you can counter with is myopic speculation. And that is pretty clear.

It wasn't business as usual when Utah left. Boise State got invited to the MWC when word leaked that Utah was leaving. Then BYU panicked and tried to leave too, but we can see how that turned out.
