What's new

Bill Simmons: Prediction No. 1: Utah tries like hell to trade up for Jabari Parker.

It's interesting that some folks here keep criticizing Parker's defense yet for some reason forget about The matador defense of Kanter and Burks. So if we want to build a defensive minded team then Burks and Kanter have no future with this team, right? So why not trade them for a guy who's going to be a star for years to come?

What was our record with Kanter starting for us last year?

There's even a YouTube video out on Kanter. A compilation of his pathetic defense. Terrible P&R defense and so slow with his feet. Not to mention brain farts. At 5:07 boler describes it perfectly: " Aldridge left alone. Kanter too late." Enjoy:
Kanter trying to cover Love is liking watching the best of SNL. It's one of the reasons I'm a Vonleh supporter. I think Vonleh is going to be a great 2-way player. Kanter needs to become a 5 in today's NBA. Most PF's are just too athletic and mobile.

That said, I wouldn't trade him right now. I think even IF the Jazz take a PF, Enes will still get a lot of minutes, show some improvement just by virtue of the team and coach being better, and improve his trade value if it comes to that.

So if jazz make investment of Vonleh, you think Kanter's trade value will be high? All teams will be aware of the time for the jazz. So better trade Kanter if Vonleh favors tandem will be the future, no need to play kanter for another 6 month and trade him for nothing.

PS: The video about Kanter's defense does not reflect the matador defense idea, in fact Kanter had hustled well but offense had been better than defense. Kanter's problems begin with PnR defense due to his slow feet and guards defense. He was generally too aggressive while showing up for the guard that's why too late to cover the big men. He can still be good positional defender, mediocre PnR with sharp defensive schemes. I am sure even corbin would not know how to defend PnR. Kanter's gonna be better next year and become double double guy for sure.

The Jazz team defense ranking last speaks volumes about the individual's defensive abilities.

If Al Jefferson can anchor a top defense, I'll take my chances with Parker.

Exactly.

Unlike Jefferson, Parker isn't just a shooter but a maker who gets to the FT line. An alpha dog who we could depend on for years to come. Draft Parker, and compensate for his weaknesses. If we Continue to compensate for our team of role players' weaknesses then we will never come close to winning anything. Our c5 is too flawed and quite honestly, not talented enough to make a dent in this league. Or was last year (and the year before that) not evidence enough?

Gotta significantly upgrade this roster by obtaining a star. Parker is exactly that. If we have even a chance at obtaining Parker, you take it and laugh all the way up and down I-15 that night. Jabari Parker would be the greatest thing to hit this state since Brigham Young entered the valley. His jersey would immediately sell out. Not sure if we've had a more marketable player ever. Mormons and Gentiles would buy his stuff alike. BYU fans, Aggies fans, Wildcat fans, and persons fans (from the school up north. Don't want to offend by calling them Utes) would unite in finally obtaining a player with star power

Parker is going to be the rough equivalent to Steph Curry but as a forward. That sounds good to me. Get him if there's the remotest chance.

Or ****, I don't care who's there at #3. Get one of those three guys.

I don't even think Jabari is going to be as bad as a defender as people make him out to be either. He had some pretty nice blocks in college. Also, the NBA is a different game. His defense might translate better. That and he is still growing into his own body. Kinda like a young calf.

I know you aren't arguing against him. Just thought I'd quote your post. Seems as good as any.

Offensively, Jabari is going to beast. Probably gonna be averaging 25 by the time he is 23.

I agree, its absurd to just label an athletic 19 year old player a bad defender. He has the physical tools, after that it just comes down to effort and buying in to a coach's philosophy. To just make a blanket statement like "Parker is going to be a terrible defense player" is absurd imo.

You know, I was just thinking about a trade with philly. Would they even want to take Burks or Kanter with their contract extensions coming next year? I'm not exactly sure how these things work. Would they stay restricted free agents?

Most likely we would not have any extension dealing with them, and would leave that up to their new teams. Yes they would have to pay them soon, but cap space is not an issue with any of them unless they think a superstar will be wanting to come to town. A top 3 pick isn't chump change either, and will scale up with the salary cap rising next year.

Aaron Gordon/Marcus Smart/Randle/Vonley + Burks + 23rd Pick + Not Risking Future 1st Round > JP

Maybe it's only because I'm not as high on Parker's amazing scoring ability as everyone seems to be so.

Though, anyone can continue to assume I'm stupid or a clown. Freedom to have an opinion both ways, right, so it's OK by me.

If possible I would do --> #5, #23, #35, GS 2017 pick. for Jabari. Keep our core guys, add Jabari, pay who is worth paying after seeing next year with a good coach.

#5, #23, #35, GS 2017 pick can do it. Parker is like Utah's dream. Potential all star + mormon = :D. I really don't want burks to be traded, thou. He averaged 12 points under Corbin. I will be better with a new coach.

It's idiotic that people wouldn't trade #5 and Burks for Parker. We overvalue our own players and sometimes underrate them, it's a natural thing. Seriously though guys come on, #5, #23, GSW '17 pick, and Burks for Parker is a good deal let alone just #5 and Burks.

So would I.

Hell, even resign Hayward for 3 years, and put them together. Something tells me Hay would flourish with Parker.

Burke - Hayward - Jabari - Kanter - Favors would be a solid mother ****ing lineup.

Add a shooter through FA + Burks, Gobert, Neto, Evans, Garrett.

Next year we make the playoffs as a 7/8 seed. the year after we are top 4. The next year we make a title run.

......lets stop with Parker talk...

jazz are not getting wiggins, parker, nor embiid.

lets talk about #5 lmao. There is nothing we can trade to move up....no team is willing to take that.

Might be a chance that Parker slips to Utah:
Thinking that the Bucks want Wiggins, Philly trades #3 + #10 to the Bucks for the #2. Philly takes Wiggins and Milwaukee takes Exum. Orlando needing a PG takes Smart at #4 and Utah gets Parker. Get it done!
