Booing Deron is riduculous

Prior to the game, Deron told the New York Post that he would love to get the win to shut the fans up (referring to last time when he was booed and it hurt his tender feelings). The last thing you want to do is publicly say you want jazz fans to shut up. We are a crazy bunch of ******** that take pride in our crazy fanatical cheering that we sometimes take too far because we love the jazz.

Yeah but he didn't say that vindictively or without prompt. It was more of a resigned comment when asked how he feels about being booed

Even his charity in the community he provided is enough for me to not want to boo him.

I know that. But when jazz fans hear that someone wants to "shut them up" it just fuels the craziness in the fans, I think. Jazz fans prize themselves on the Radium Stadium being one of the toughest arenas to play in traditionally. We like to take credit for that.

Do I think Williams was being vindictive or negative? Not necessarily. But that is beside the point.
Did any jazz fan even hear/read those comments before the game? I have no clue. I did, but I wasn't at the game.

If I would have been there, I would have cheered him during starting lineups to thank him for his 5 1/2 years in Utah. However, once the ball is thrown into the air.....he is the enemy...right along with every other player in a black jersey that night.

I was at the game and am glad to say I did not boo him. I did however boo when they announced Corbin as the jazz coach. :)

The crowd was a little weak. Actually, pretty much dead most of the first half. Not until they they started making a run and Foye hit all those threes and we could taste a win coming did it go crazy. The loudest it got all night is when Hayward blocked D-Will and then almost got the and 1 on the three did the place just explode.

I don't think jazz fans are as crazy as they use to be.

I think booing any former player is ridiculous.

I largely agree with this, but not 100%. I'd never boo Deron, despite the Sloan thing. It was Jerry's choice to resign, Deron didn't make him do that even if he was a contributing factor. The exceptions I'd make are when the player badmouths the team like Roger B, or that type of thing. But Deron hasn't done anything like that.

I haven't been to a single game this year. This is the first year in I don't know how long that I haven't attended games. Having said that, I have sensed that the crowds have been weak this year. A lot of folks sick of things I think. Jazz front office need to do something to give us something to really get excited about.

I enjoyed the Deron/Boozer years for the most part. Offensively they ran a great pick and roll! Boozer's development of his left hand was a joy to behold! Deron back then had an excellent outside shot and played tough defense. The Jazz had good ball movement and were always near the top in assists and shooting percentage. But somehow, someway.....it started to go South! Boozer got very lazy on defense. Deron started to loose his patience and his jumpshot......and then he got on Sloans nerves by taking matters into his own hands and not running the offense to Sloans liking! Boozer bolted for more trump and the new dummies that came in couldn't cut the mustard! Now what we have is borderline unwatchable. I take that back. It's UNWATCHABLE.

boozer got lazy on defense?
i remember it differently

I don't think jazz fans are as crazy as they use to be.

The problem is that they are not as emotionally vested in the team as they used to be. Bring back a product to be excited about and the energy will go up again.

I doubt that more than a handful of fans were even aware of Deron's comments. So I don't think that was a major reason why so many chose to boo him.

^ sorry if this offends anyone on this board. But this is what you look like when you boo Deron.... an idiot!

Also make sure not to clap too loud at the games. It might annoy people sitting close to you who are rooting for the visiting team, or who are just there because they got free tickets at work or something. I mean, to show extreme emotion at a sporting event is pretty low brow. You look like a dumb Ty Corbin when you get into the game too much.

I get the sense that a lot of this board doesn't really hate Deron at this point.. but why does our fan base? I get that Sloan retired because of him.. which needed to happen anyways at some point. We moved a different direction, and it is working out well for us. We got maximum value out of him, and we're set for years to come because of the trade. But for a player that was the face of the franchise, that lead us to the playoffs and was the face of our team, he does not deserve to get booed at this point. Our fanbase truly is retarded for consistently hating on a player that gave us, and got us so much.

Totally Agree. Booing Deron is just Stupid. He did a lot for our organization and he always wanted to Win!!

I honestly don't understand why the boo's at all  our fans at the games definatly need more sence!

Deron would have stayed had Utah kept a competitive team in tact and changed the offense Utah had run for the past 50 years! He loved Utah and just wanted to compete for a title. Check out his comments after the game Saturday night:

"It's getting better," Williams said of the crowd. "Maybe next year I'll get some boos, maybe a couple of cheers. It's good; no animosity. I don't have anything bad to say about the fans. They're going to react and think what they want to think. I can't really change that, but I've just got a lot of love for them."
