Boozer double-crosses Nets. What else is new, eh?

Nets stunned by Carlos Boozer's decision to sign with Bulls

"It was early Wednesday afternoon that Rod Thorn called agent Rob Pelinka and offered his client, power forward Carlos Boozer, a contract worth $75 million to play for the Nets for the next five seasons. Pelinka thanked Thorn and said he would get back to him at the end of the day, according to a Nets official familiar with the negotiation.

Two hours later, the Nets learned —with no warning and no recourse — that Boozer signed a five-year, $80 million deal with the Chicago Bulls. Throughout the morning, the Nets were trying to arrange a meeting between Boozer, who as at home in Miami, and coach Avery Johnson, who is with the summer league team in Orlando. They only spoke by phone.

Why would Boozer want to go to NJ? The Bulls offered him more money adn have a far better team already in place.

Edit: I guess you would have to ask Pelinka, eh, Honzy?

I doubt Boozer's deal with Chicago is set in stone. It's probably set at a baseline. In other words, the Bulls agreed to pay Booze that salary with the idea it could be the final salary if the Jazz don't deal in an S&T. They probably also stipulated that if Lebron comes it might not change much. I'm guessing there's an agreement that it will go up by at least the 10% raises if the Jazz deal, and if Booze gets a 6th year we'll really know why he signed in Chicago. On the flip side, Chicago vs. Newark isn't much of a choice even if Brooklyn is on the horizon in 2 years.

That makes NO sense whatsoever. The NBA rules declare that no one can sign any contracts until July 8th...That is tommorrow. So NJ if they offered Boozer a deal or not found out in plenty of time to give another offer. Obviously they should have done the max the first time (like the Bulls) instead of trying to keep some money to themselves.

I wouldn't really call that a 'double-cross'. Sounds more like a lack of courtesy.... agent probably could have given them a quick call to let them know Boozer would be accepting another offer.

Boozer did not receive a max deal from Chicago.

Well, mebbe it's a double-cross, mebbe it aint, but I like callin it one, either way. If the story is accurate, the agent said he would get back to them at the end of the day--implying that Boozer would not make a final decision before then.

Its a little double-cross, a lot lack of courtesy, and I could still see Boozer leaving the Bulls at the alter and going somewhere else for a few dollars more. That would be so Boozerlike. A skunk smells but its not his fault.

You can bet that the first thang Pelinka did after talkin to Thorn was to tell Chicago about the Nets' offer, eh?

Boozer has a rep of double crossing, the Nets are in public relations CYA because they lost alot of games last year and are about to lose out on all the FA's. --The non-story is more about the nets than the boozer.

Amare got 5 years for $100 million and I believe they have been in the league the dame amount of time.

Accordin to that NJ rag I cited, the max for Boozer was $92 million, and he started out askin all teams for $85.

Well, Booze isn't signed. If New Jersey wants the moral victory, all they have to do is sit tight. If they want Boozer, all they have to do is pay. It's not like Pelinka won't listen if they want to give him a MAX deal. And it's not like Boozer has no history of walking away from a handshake agreement.
