Boston vs Utah for Hayward

Cavs were up by 20 pts for the 10th game in a row and just got complacent. Meanwhile Smart and Jerbeko had career nights.

They played great defense on him. They were physical and Lebron didn't respond.

If this were Utah performing this well against GSW and people didnt give Utah any credit Jazz fans would be furious.

Oh please. No amount of great defense should be enough to hold LeBron James to 0 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist over the last 16:31 of a game. Give credit to the Celtics, but LeBron coasting through the rest of the game clearly made this possible. It defies all logic to try and argue otherwise.

Ainge was trying to trade IT for a lottery pick last year. Smart was even being offered in deals to get another pick.

Jackie MacMullan says the only untouchable on the team is Al Horford.

Strange that horford is untouchable.

And the worst thing that could happen for Utah happened: Boston sits IT and suddenly look like a much better team. Now Hayward gets to imagine this team without IT and with him and Butler instead.

Hayward isn't making his decision based on what he "imagines" might happens, he'll need something a little more concrete than that.

No, I think they are going to trade IT/Crowder so they can sign Hayward.

That would be a salary dump. I think Ainge will try to trade IT for another lottery pick like he did last year. Last year he was rebuffed. This year IT is older, more injured and in need of a salary increase. Let's see if Ainge can pull that one off. He reportedly really likes Tatum.

I'm skeptical Boston even offers Hayward the max at this point. Signing Hayward is an all in move for Boston. It puts them over the cap. It forces them to go over the Luxury Tax to keep IT next year or trade him/let him walk which would be a massive step back and they would be over the cap regardless. I don't think they are sold on that signing being enough to win them a chapionship. Signing Hayward + trading for Butler or George would not only be hard to pull off, it would force them to gut most of their roster. And still might not be enough to beat Cleveland or Golden State. I think they are still banking on the future. Their owner is adamant on keeping this number one pick according to reports. I think they keep the pick, take Fultz, stay out of the Hayward chase and continue being patient.

It doesn't seem as though the Celtics are committed to IT as their starter long term. They may offer him an extension to become a 6th man down the road and have him help transition to Fultz going forward. They probably aren't going to max him. IT probably wants a bigger deal and role. If they're at an impasse Ainge may indeed try to trade him.

I don't think the Celtics will trade for Butler, simply because I don't think they have enough to trade for him unless they offer Fultz plus another asset or two. I don't see Chicago's motivation to trade Butler. He's a young star, still improving, locked up for 4 years. He's a guy you add pieces to not send away for draft picks or lesser players.

As for Paul George, a year from now he's likely to be in LA with Lonzo Ball and Russel Westbrook.
