Breaking News, Deron stays with the Nets

Bird rights make you wonder if we could've had a great shot at keeping him. Oh well onward and upward.
Wouldn't have wanted him at $20M/per. Prokhorov is willing to pay the luxury tax after signing Wallace to an inflated deal and trading for Johnson. If they don't get Dwight, they'll still have to pay Lopez a good chunk of change. Brooklyn has just beconme the NY Yankees of basketball.

hell yeah bro I was so Pissed jazz fans booed Deron like that I wish he was still Here and he was my idol growing up I used to watch his Highlight videos all Day wehn I was in eighth grade I think. Hes the man I hope he wins the Title unless its against the Jazz ya know

I like this post. It's very homerish-nostalgic-honest.

Not when you look at his contract and his production.

There's always compromise. That's the compromise to get DWill.

If Prokhorov can play the tax - and he's willing to do that - who cares?

What people don't understand is Billy King is only a puppet. It's Prokhorov who's calling the shots.

The owner calls the shots for every organization.

At this point - this trade looks to be one of those rare occassions that worked/is working out to both teams' benefit.

Nets got (and kept) a superstar and credibility to take to Brooklyn, and the Jazz got a wonderful foundation in their rebuilding process. We can judge this move again in 2-3 years, but as of now you can't say 1 team completely fleeced the other. It was a great move for the position the Jazz were in, and it was a big risk for the Nets that appears to have paid off and could be a complete homerun if they land Dwight.

I'm quite happy with Favors/Kanter/Burks (Burks - because it's less likely we're picking 12th if we hang on to Deron), the future GSW pick and Marvin Williams the player (if not the contract) just as I'm sure Brooklyn fans will be to welcome a Nets team that is definitely a top-5 team in the East and could be a bonafide contender if they land Dwight. Win-win...so far.

Good to see Deron showing some loyalty. At the same time they now have two massively overpaid players in Williams and Johnson and can no longer afford Howard on the open market regardless of how much Prokorov is willing to spend. They will be a second round, possibly first round, fodder team until Johnson fizzles out completely.

I'd say good for Deron, but I'm not sure he bet on the right horse. As constructed, that Nets team is going to be pretty shaky as soon as year 3 with little flexibility to replace aging parts. Prokorov will spend so that may help. But I have a sneaky suspicion he's going to have Jazz deja vu all over again: a team up against the limit of its financial capabilities that isn't good enough to win it all.
