Build Around Gobert and DM Thread

After what I have seen so far this year, I truly feel like we have two elite players on our roster. Gobert is a big man unicorn and Mitchell might be the real deal on both ends of the court.

So I ask myself, what is the best way to support those two guys? I think Mitchell has to play SG. Could he evolve to play some PG, sure. I feel he is best at SG. So...

PG
SG Mitchell
SF
PF
C Gobert

That is where we start and build from there. Here is how I do it, and of course I want others' thoughts and ideas:

We have to find a way to use our mediocre assets (expiring Favors, restricted Hood, aging JJ, 2nd rounders, etc) to get Phoenix to trade Bledsoe to the Bucks so we get Parker. To me, Parker is without a doubt the best target I have seen for us in a while. He fits perfectly next to Gobert. He can score. He has star qualities. He would be given more time to develop here than at a Bucks team looking to be relevant now. Are they committed to paying for Parker?

Medium risk/high reward. Yes, he has gotten injured. But he could come back. Same with Exum. Both guys have elite potential whereas nobody else on our roster does. We gotta swing for the fences. They are both at "buy low" times in their careers. Steph Curry signed a bargain deal in a similar time in his development.

All aboard Parker, Exum, Mitchell and Gobert. At the start of the 2019 season, we could have a matured Exum, seasoned Mitchell, healthy Parker and beast man Gobert. Those 4 have it all. By that time, Burks and other guys have cycled out. We would have a core 4 and build from there.

I'd like to try to get a future stud by trading for Ingram and taking on Deng.

Thoughts?

For the record, I'm on board with the general premise, but I mean, welcome to the evening of July 4th?

If we want to start a thread of real intrigue, someone should start one about actually blowing the team up (trading anyone not on a rookie-scale deal), and what the Jazz could fetch for Gobert.

If you are building around Mitchell, you are going to want him to be the PG.

Which means you should keep Hood because Hood really compliments Mitchell well as the 2-guard spot.

But you know what 's really great about Mitchell? He is only a rookie and no rash decisions have to be made about what Mitchell is or isnt.

Let's ride this Rubio thing for the next two years and try to find a PF Quin actually knows how to use then figure it out when Rubio is set to be a UFA.

Hood complements a good team as a scorer off the bench. Tired of waiting for him to show some god damn sand, mostly because I feel like if he had any, we would've seen some by now.

Is Ingram going to be a stud? Are there not other teams willing to take on a bad contract if he is?

I think he is a stud, but not a go-to 1st option scorer. He has a game "glue" type game, but with length and athletic ability. Just from a physical standpoint it's really reminiscent of watching AK attack the basket where it's just freaky looking given how long and fluid he is and the way he just extends around the rim. Maybe he figures it out though and becomes a big time scorer though, who knows, it's in the cards.

I just don't see the Lakers doing anything that rash revolving around Kuzma or Ingram. They will try to leverage Randle and Clarkson to get rid of Deng, and I like neither of those dudes.

I think the most pressing question that needs to be answered now and in the future is where the hell the Jazz are going to find the PF they've been looking for.

But if the market doesn't bite on either/both of those two, don't the Lakers have good cause to shed Deng's deal if the free agent market is there for them (or they think it is)?

No I think Hood, if he makes no large leap in skill or style progression, is a JR Smith type with unique shotmaking skills. He is best as a starter who plays off playmakers.

And I really don't know why people are so down on Hood. He was a good player these last 2 years besides getting injured. If that's all he is, that's still a top 15 starting shooting guard in a league where shooting matters.

I still am mystified by the Tony Bradley pick. Part of me wonders if the Jazz thought they could get Kuzma and then he got snatched or something. Just seems odd they couldn't move up another slot or two, or that they didn't seem to prioritize what was and is obviously the most glaring need. I mean, all they did to address the position over the course of the entire offseason was sign Jerebko to a 2-year deal.

It's just weird. I have to hope/assume they struck out on a very concerted effort, otherwise, we might have not-that-great of an organization after all.

Alright, then riddle me this: what is a top-15 SG on a rookie deal worth on the market?

No idea. Like everyone has said, it's a unique year and few teams have money.

Doesn't that mean his rights are worth more?

For the record, I'm not of the opinion he needs to be gotten rid of. But should he be a name that comes up in talks? Absolutely.

Hood has the most trade value of the players i would want to trade. My biggest problem with Hood is he is inconsistent and when his shot doesn't fall he really doesn't contribute in other ways. I still like him but if there is a deal which allows the Jazz to improve than I would trade him.

I'm on board for Ingram or Kuzma for taking back Deng. I've been for that for a while. Makes sense for both sides. If they want LBJ and George, they gotta dump Deng. Clarkson can't do it and Randle is a RFA.
