Burks at #12

I love the Burks pick, but dang, we could have had George Hill for the 12th pick. KOC must not have talked to San Antonio very much. I am so glad that they have a 2 guard that can put it on the floor, get his own shot off, and has some length. TIME TO TRADE HAYWARD!!!!

I really thought everyone here was going to love this pick. I thought he was clearly the BPA, is athletic, and has a ton of potential. We could either start him with Hayward, or bring him off the bench as a guy who can really help our 2nd unit score.

You just can't please everyone it seems.

I have zero problem with the pick. Sure, some guy picked after could be the guy that we say "we picked Burks over _____". But going back and looking at the circumstances, I don't have one gripe.

Dude could be DWade lite........or Morris Almond. That's the 2012 NBA draft.

I love this pick. He was the best available player and he has the most upside of any player that was still available. Why wouldn't you pick this guy?

Not crazy about the pick - I would have went for a shooter like Hamilton.

But what the hell - it's the 12th pick. If he can develop into a solid role player, I'll be happy.

And I like his "chip on my shoulder" talk. Let's see if he can back it up.

If he can play the point in the NBA he can be a match-up nightmare for opposing teams.

A lot of Jazz fans overrate Hamilton simply because they read an article about how he likes the Jazz system. Burks destroyed Texas and Hamilton when they played. He can play the PG/SG. The fact that he only shoots 29% is not a big deal. I believe that Hayward shot 29 percent from 3 pt. line his senior year and see how he improved. This kid has been underestimated his whole career and he is going to be good. If he works hard which I believe he will he can be very good. Besides the kid is 19 years old. I think he is definitely one of the steals of the draft.

I'm with you, it seemed on alot of threads everyone would be excited if Burks fell to us, know everyone is back peddling. This is a fantastic pick for #12 cause he is one of the top high risk high reward guys is this draft!

Hamilton is so overrated by a lot of Jazz fans simply because the read an article about how he likes the Jazz system.

I wish I could rep you again for this. Took the words out of my mouth. They read the one article about him playing in the flex and that was it, next stop "draft expert".

He is also a 50% shooter from 2 (he takes a good amount of pull up J's too), and an 80% shooter from the foul line. He obviously has some sort of stroke, so I feel confident he can at least improve to be a good 3 point shooter.

The biggest thing about Burks is his ability to create his own shot and draw FTs. He can drive to both left and right. He is a decent defender. Good passer. Nice size, decent athleticism. Good overall connect from the floor, which coupled with the number of times he got fouled, is really terrific. However, not being a good s.hooter is a huge concern. Also, he played against rather ppor competition and did not take his team to being ranked, hence he is not a difference maker at a college level. KOC made the best pick he could at #12. Burks has a chance to be really good, he is still very young, so let's hope for the best.

I would be more worried about his shooting if he had poor mechanics but he doesn't. I don't think he played with anyone on Colorado that was any good. I don't know much about their personnel. I saw the kid against Texas and he just took over the game. He looked really good in the NIT. I became a fan watching him a few times in the NIT and he was definitely on my draft board. There are countless players who have made it in the NBA who played lower level college schedules (Stockton and Malone).

Even if he doesn't get a three point shot being able to hit his mid range jumpers is a huge benefit over Brewer.

Haven't you realized that many Jazz fans just like to complain and second guess anything KOC or the organization does. I just can't see how anyone can be that upset. I guess you could prefer Leonard but it is obvious that KOC went with what they thought was the BPA. I am extremely happy with the way things went down.

I like Burks. He probably was BPA. The question you have to ask is what the degree of separation in BPA is between him and 30. For my money, we should have worked a trade to get Mirotic. But if KOC thinks his ceiling is really high, I'm on board.

Go look at DWades 2 years stats at Marquette........look familiar? "Couldn't shoot the 3" was said then too.

Not saying he's gonna be Wade but they are similar and have very similar college stats. Same thing has now been said a lot about Hayward and his 3pt percentage his last year. Dude has no mechanics issues, shoots very well from the rest of the floor, gets to the line and when he does he makes them. Stop being "that guy".

Just looked up Alex Burks on scoutingthenba.com on goggle (computer program based to rate players in this draft) to see how good of a player they see him being. I would take this result anytime for a 12th pick in any draft:

Starter on 50 win team

I hope he's on his way to Hornacek's house right now. Kid needs to be his bitch.

I'm intrigued by this pick. It could be a total steal at #12. We'll see.... I can't wait for this board to over-react when he has a slow start. He's got all the intangibles to be one of the most hated players on this board. lol

I think Burks is an exceptional player. Despite what everyone says, he's a good shooter. He is a poor 3-point shooter, but he has a pretty good mid-range shot. He also has a smooth stroke and a good looking shot. He's athletic, he's long, he can create his own shot, and he has a great scorer's tough. I know nothing about Kanter, but I'm VERY happy with both picks.
