Burks playing team ball; Lyles not

I was noticing Alec passing up shots he could've taken to move the ball to a more open man, almost to a fault. I think he is working hard to break from his natural inclination to just be a scorer. I also noticed Lyles taking shots when there were guys open with better shots.

Thats one of the downsides of being down in confidence, you aren't in the right head space. I think we've seen that from Favors, Lyles, Dante and Mack this year.

May require a little digging but do you have any examples?

I think Lyles game shows promise. I like how Burks is playing right now too, moving the ball well, not to a fault.

Burks' play has made the loss of hood less noticeable. Also, Joe Johnson and jingles have both helped lessen the blow for sure.

Lyles has had a poor season imho. Just when I say that he goes off on a team and looks like an incredible asset to the team. Typical sophomore season stuff. Give him time. Hood is still playing like that. They will get there soon enough. The best part is that they are learning WHILE we are kicking tail!

I'm wondering if Bolomboy is the PF of the future and Lyles is trade bait.

I doubt it. Last season DL claimed he received a very solid offer for Lyles and he turned it down. Granted, Lyles was playing well then but if the offer for him was good and turned down it appears he's in our long-term plans. Though anything can happen. But having a stretch to compliment Favors is nice - especially once Lyles starts playing like the 2nd half of last season.

Lyles is a mystery to me. Last year it took him a month to make his FG. Then following the ASB he turned into a cold-blooded assassin, scoring every way he can. We just could not believe our eyes sometimes. So far this year he looks mediocre again. Too bad because he actually may be the ideal PF type to complement Gobert, at least theoretically, which probably was the reason he was drafted.

21 year old, only in second year. Flashes are what we need to see. He has the tools, he will improve.

Lyles doesn't have the benefit of being on a lousy team like Burks, Favors & Hayward did.

The Jazz are trying to win some games so the tolerance for errors with the young guys is much less - so Lyles naturally presses with the time he's given. He plays like he's trying to score 3 baskets on 2 shots. Burks went through the same thing a few years back.

I think you'd have to be real short-sighted to give up on Lyles - his size and ability to score from virtually anywhere in the half court setting is enticing enough to stick with the kid.

some of you guys are ridiculous tbh. when trey has a bad game, it's all "he's a bust. should've drafted booker." or when dante has a bad game "he's never going to amount to anything. what a waste." its like, really? they're both basically in their SECOND year of pro basketball. barely 20 and 21 years old. calm down. they'll mature and grow and become wonderful basketball players. give it time.

I mean, I wanted Booker, but I love Lyles. The dude is still young, he'll be fine.

If you guys want to get rid of someone, it needs to be Hood in the offseason.. maybe to move up in the draft to get someone they really like. Burks is making him expendable, mostly because Burks is on a much more team-friendly contract than what Hood is in line to get.

Lyles won't be traded until the Jazz decide what to do with Favors. If they pay Favs a large salary (and Hayward and Hill stay), there's no money left for Lyles. Then you trade Lyles for a pick and slide Bolomboy or a draftee into the backup 4 spot.

I actually like Lyles, just think he is pressing to score because of lack of PT. He has a great 3-pt shot, gets it off easily with great range. He'll get there. My observation was simply from last game.

Ive seen him have good games. I just wonder about his defense/rebounding when his shot isnt on (been off a lot lately).
I give guys a lot of slack early in their careers. Mostly because they take time to develop, especially when they leave college early. I like the skill set Lyles has, but he needs to find his rhythm. I have faith he'll get it, just a little disappointed he's not further along right now.

Sometimes it almost seems like Jazz fans want to complain about players just to complain.
