Bye Sap It Was Nice Knowing You

Sad to see Sap go out on such a low note. It's made it hard to remember the better parts of his career
Agree. But sadly, part of that is on Sap. I don't see the same player as I did 3-5 years ago. He's not a junkyard dog anymore. Starting meant he had to "pace himself" more and not just go after every loose ball and give 100% energy all the time.

If he were willing to be the 6th man, I'd love to see him back. But Favors HAS to START. And I don't see Derrick starting at the 5.

I don't see the Jazz being proactive with him given the amount of tread left on him.

Millsap is performing quite well in adjusted +/- and regularized adjusted +/- once again. He's been among the league's top 11 players by at least one measure of adjusted +/- in all 3 seasons as a starter (11th by Prior informed adjusted +/- in 12/13 per apbrmetrics.com, 2nd in adjusted +/- in 11/12 per basketballvalue.com, 10th in adjusted +/- in 10/11 per basketball value.com). I think this is a credit to how good a player he is off the ball and in transition. He's probably a much better player to have around for the development of the young guys (his smarts and execution are miles ahead of Jefferson's), especially considering how well they all perform when sharing the court with him. He's definitely worth more than his box score stats would indicate.

Millsap's numbers are still alright but you just don't see that Bang! that he used to have.. Of course having Favors and Big Al does kind of shadow him .. his overall skills have improved but you think about it the Sap we all know and loved was a rebound fighter and got playing time by playing D-fence something that Boozer wouldn't

He has fools gold numbers. There will probably be someone that bites and really overpays him. Perhaps we can workout a sign and trade and get a good young player.

Millsap is perfect for a 3rd big slash 6th man role if he can accept it. I just doubt that he is ready to accept that role yet.

MLE dollars?

Isnt that like 5 million? Sap is worth more than that.

Also Sap was humble but the last season or so it seems that has faded and he is more demanding of his starter role. Just my perception.

From Locke's Facebook/Twitter
You'd think that even if you could re-sign Sap to a decent contract you could land one of these adequate replacements.

No one is arguing that Sap isn't good. But for some reason this year he just doesn't pass the eye test. Just isn't bringing like he used to. Don't know the reason but this is one of those times that stats aren't everything.

oh yeah, I remember at the trade deadline almost every team was talking about how much they wanted to pay Marvin Wiliams for two years so they could trade away their promising point guard, and maybe have the same chance they would have had this offseason at signing Millsap. Why didn't we ever make that trade? Oh yeah, because NO ONE was going to trade for Marvin Williams and his shell of an NBA player.

ummm yeah, no one will trade for anyone IF YOU DONT LOOK AT THE OFFERS OR MAKE OFFERS, which is exactly what the Jazz did. You dont remember beacause our front office didnt do anything during the trade deadline! And you may want to read my original post again because I said nothing about other teams offering us point guards for mar williams. Thats why I suggested another player including Mar Will involved in the trade idea I had, Paul Millsap. 2 4 1, capeesh??? I thought I made it clear in my original post, but it looks like I have to dip into my elementary explanation for those who cant read. I'm not aggravated, just annoyed with those lacking brains! So go ahead and tattle about my response, so I can get an infraction about replying to idiotic, stupid, head in their ***, morons like yourself. I'm waiting......... My guess is, it will take you less than 5 hours to cry... START

You don't know that.

Sap has heart and works hard. I would love for us to resign him. If he continues to develop his shot, I would love to see him at the SF position. And if we play a team with a small line-up, he can always play PF. I think there's a chance we resign him.

He doesn't have the lateral quickness to play small forward. In today's NBA, you have to have good parimiter defenders to be a good defensive team. That said, Sap will never be the starting power forward for a contending team either. He's a a great 3rd big and if he ever wants to win he'll need to accept that role. Love Sap, don't get me wrong, but unless Chris Paul and Labron James are his teamates, he won't ever start for a championship calibar team-- He's too undersized for the 4 and not latterly quick enough for the 3.

And that's just the way it is. I love the guy, too, but if he's too proud to come off the bench I think he's looking at a pretty average career and he's welcome to go do that somewhere else. There's no way it's better for the Jazz to start Sap next year. If that's what happens then I'm gonna have a hard time watching, because it's gonna be sad.

From that list I think Hickson has probably played his way to the biggest contract and if the Jazz do have to get someone from that list Speights is the one I was thinking just because he can play both the 5/4 positions and makes the signing of a true center less likely, or one that would take minutes away from Favors & Kanter.
