Marvin. He is a big, athletic SF who can at least physically match-up against the NBA elite at the position. He also appears to be the type of player that improves a significant amount in an offense like the Jazz have.

This should be everyone's answer.
Big, athletic, strong, good around the rim, can finish. He looks like a bigger Ronnie Brewer with a 3pt shot to me. KOC was reportedly very interested in him during the draft too.
Obviously our offense isn't as cutter friendly as it was during the Sloan/Dwill era, but we still feed and set-up cutters better than most teams.

I was really intrigued by what Locke said on his podcast this morning that perhaps Marvin was brought here under the pretense that we may move Millsap. When you think about it, it makes a ton of sense. Millsap is an undersized 4 who can occasionally play 3. However, Marvin is a big 3 who can occasionally play the 4, which is more of what we need.

I like this. However, I do think Foye will see time at the 2 and Gordo will see time at the 3.

It's hard to plug in mins when you have basically too many players at almost all positions (except PG). But an injury or two makes the PT issues disappear. While Marvin could get mins at the 4, I don't want to see him there. Even if Millsap is moved, Jazz still have Favors, Kanter and Jefferson to rotate at the 4/5. And throw in Evans for 5-6 mins if possible.
What it comes down to is a core 8. For the Jazz, that would mean 3 bigs, 3 wings and 2 PG's. Then you have a couple of young guys or solid vets as back-ups (depends on how you've drafted or if you can get good vets to play for cheap). The rest of the roster can be filler, especially given the luxury tax ramifications coming up.
For Utah, that likely means:
1. Bigs: Favors, Kanter and either Jefferson or Millsap. I'll predict Al, not because I like him better than Paul; I just think Millsap is a better trade chip and given the negotiations last time around, might be harder to sign. I think it also depends on Favors' willingness to play the 5 and perhaps Kanter's ability to play the 4. Keep Al and Kanter has to play some at the 4. Keep Millsap and Favors needs to play a lot at the 5.
2. Wings: Hayward and Burks are hopefully the future of the franchise. Burks should be playing close to 30 mins at SG by next season. I could also seem him and Foye in the backcourt at the same time, with Burks initiating the offense. I see Hayward as the swing man, playing half his time at SF and half at SG. If Gordon can do that, then we need a true SF. And I'm really hoping Marvin is the answer. He has the ideal siaze, plays decent defense and the stats show he has improved his outside shot (unless it was just an anomaly). Then again, if he has a good season or two, he might prove too expensive to keep. If Gordon can't play effectively at SG, then the needs change to finding a swing player - i.e. a "rich man's Ronnie Brewer."
3. PG: Jazz are betting on Mo. Obviously a huge need here to add an heir apparent, just like they did when Stockton learned behind Greene for a couple of years.
There are the core-8. Pay them and then fill the rest of the roster the best you can.
Back-ups: Foye, Evans, and Earl or Jamaal are all good to have as injury insurance. Maybe Murphy develops as a reliable backup SG. And the Jazz should have a couple of first rounders, with hopefully one in the late lottery next year. Get a PG, or draft a backup big. Or maybe even a SF if Marvin isn't going to be the player we need. Or use some combination of those assets PLUS the expirings of Al or Paul to get a very good veteran. There are a few different ways to go. Jazz are in pretty good position with both KOC and Lindsey working on personnel decisions.

I think Kermit Korbin will chicken to from all of this "who is gonna start?!?" business, and start both Favors AND Millsap, initially.
It can be disguised as a "oh Marvin needs to be familiarized with our offense" type thing.
What I expect to happen, is for Favors to excel @ starting at PF, Marvin beasting when he comes off the bench, culminating in the lineup of

I've been very impressed by Favors' professionalism in what he says and does, including his willingness to do the Jr. Jazz tour, despite him also playing on the Select team. At this point, he is at absolute zero on the diva scale. Stockton was the model, of course. But I hope Favors can become a superstar and still retain most of his humbleness.

i voted with the majority... the caveat is that if burks really is THAT much improved across the board, i could see hayward-burks as the starting wings and marvin comes off the bench in a staggered rotation.

I went with Milsap over Williams because sap know the plays better and has shown that he can play with Al and Favors on the floor at the same time. I do think that Williams will be the first off the bench and sap will move to the PF spot. Especially if a big gets in foul trouble or is getting smoked against the Pick and roll. Then you bring Kanter in for Sap when he needs a rest.

That would be a solution, and perhaps the best one for this season or until a trade is made. It's doubtful Marvin opts out for next season. His contract is pretty decent given his production. Actually, if he proves to be a nice fit, it would be great if we could get him to opt out, and structure a new contract that would throw more money into next season and less into future years. And I think Burks would be ok with not starting. His main thing is playing time.
This is just a quick glance at how PT could be structured. I just rounded so the main guys all get 28-30 mins (Al, Paul, Gordon, Derrick and Mo). I could see a backcourt of Foye/Burks for some minutes, with Alec being the playmaker on offense. That's why I put Randy in at PG for some mins.
