Call me a homer a thousand times

I was talking to UGLI in that post, specifically.

No offense to anyone else, I was just responding to UGLI when I wrote that about Tuesday.

Too late, you've already offended us by letting us know about your cliquish PM's.

I don't mind that they are cliquish. I just cry myself to sleep at night that I am not in the clique.

The more I look at it, the more I just don't get the fascination with Cousins.

Even the idea of trading Jefferson for Cousins just doesn't seem like a sure thing to me. Compare their career stats, esp. per 36 and the advanced stats, and try to tell me why you expect that Cousins would make us much better than Jefferson:

The only possible thing I see there is that Cousins improved almost everything in year 2 compared to year 1 (except assists). Only if you assume this improvement will continue (which I don't think is a very safe bet, having looked at lots of career player stats -- they tend to fluctuate, and only a few show clear long-term upward trends) is there an argument to be made for Cousins's superiority. And remember, Al was on dysfunctional teams early in his career too.

I'm particularly concerned about Cousins's FG%. Show me a post player that started so low who ended up having above average efficiency (someone might exist, but he's probably more of an exception rather than a rule). Even though Cousins is better at drawing fouls, Jefferson's TS% has never been as low as Cousins's was both of Cousins's first two years. And why would we want Cousins if he wasn't giving us above average efficiency (as we'd surely be expecting him to take the most shots and develop into an all-NBA player)?

Is Cousins a better P&R defender? I'm doubtful. As he ages with his bigger body, especially, I think his defensive quickness will decline faster than Jefferson's has.

Cousins has never had a season as good at shot blocking as Jefferson's worst year, despite being a bit longer.

Cousins is going to be demanding every bit as big a contract as Jefferson would be once free agency hits. We'd certainly not be fixing our logjam at 4/5 if we somehow switched Jefferson for Cousins.

And all this is without even bringing up character issues.

I recognize that Cousins has great offensive and rebounding potential. But how is he going to help us much more than Jefferson has if he's a high usage, low efficiency, defensively well-below average player? Everyone knows he has talent, but why should we think he'll turn into anything more than marginally more effective at things that help teams win than Jefferson is?
