What's new

Call me a homer a thousand times

yeah, this is what i meant. thanks, margo, for stating a hell of a lot more clearly than i did initially.

we may not want him to be part of our core, but he is. he plays more minutes and takes more shots than anybody else on the team, and according to 104 objective voters -- some informed, some uninformed -- he's our highest rated player. if we traded him for cousins, i guarantee you the story on the national level wouldn't be "jazz got cousins without giving up their core."
Who cares what anybody on a national level would think of such a trade? I'd be thrilled if Sactown thought they ripped us off in a straight across Jefferson for Cousins trade.

Cousins compared to Jefferson:

Better rebounder
Presumably better passer (though assists went down last year as Jefferson's went up -- I think Jefferson had more assists lasts year) -- can imagine running offense through him, not just to him
Similar scoring skills
Lower % shooter
Better at drawing fouls
Equally slow
Both shorter than Kanter, though both have longer reach -- Cousins esp. so
Comparable defense -- likely to be as bad on P&R (I'm not totally sure on this -- somebody tell me if I'm wrong)
Younger, better (presumably All-NBA) potential, though hasn't yet come close to helping his team be a winner yet
Things could blow up in Jazz face, unlike solid-citizen Jefferson
Tougher, though not completely in a good way at this point

Would we really solve all problems we need to solve with him? I know that it took Durrant a few years to figure out how to help his team win and have it not just be all about him, but Durant's a super-citizen, unlike Cousins.

My insider sources tell me he's been working hard this summer. He's now 300 lbs of pure muscle and has gained the knowledge of human flight. The announcement comes sometime next week.

I'd take Cuz over Jefferson without even blinking. The more interesting question, to me, is Kanter vs Cousins. Cuz has more potential, and is much further along offensively, but comes along with a lot more red flags. Cuz is a potential coach killer, where as Kanter seems like a pretty nice dude, and I doubt will ever be a big problem in the locker room. Cuz is always overweight, where as Kanter has a freaking 8-pack. Cuz fouls like crazy, and probably won't ever be a great defender, where as Kanter surprised us all with his defense last season and should only get better as he continues to adjust to the NBA game. Both are elite rebounders and have elite strength, can knock down the mid range jumper....what I'm trying to say is while Cousins would be a better option, I won't be too disappointed if it doesn't happen. Kanter has me very excited too.

Didn't PKPhelgm say that Kanter got the best of him a lot of times during scrimmages? Some more food for thought

Yep. Not wild differences in skillsets, they're pretty similar players. Biggest difference is confidence/take over the game mentality.

Cousins too much
Kanter too little

Seemed like Kanter had more of that before. I think he'll get it back. He just needs to get more comfortable on the floor (can we please get him some minutes?)

You heard it here first: It's gonna take a secret $7 million plus the $3 million allowed in a trade plus secret hookers. Maybe Lindsey has the right telephone numbers? Maybe Greg is down?

Enes also feels like he's supposed to await his turn. I've never gotten a straight answer whether that's because of the coaches' message, vets, or just his culture.

Someone on here said its a cultural thing. I don't doubt that but he seemed very confident and like he belonged when at UK. He's been playing like a girl, imo. Not weak, just shy.

I have a theory that it is big al and his stupid *** hazing. You can say Kanter needs to step up, regardless, but I say just stop hazing a dude who is struggling with confidence.

Hold on, are you serious? If so, anyone have a link for this?

Dead serious. I'll try and find it. Cant remember if I read it or heard it in an interview.

I think it might have been an interview with David Locke. Locke is the one that always brings up how brutal Al is to Kanter.

The more I think about it, it was Locke saying that Al had told him that, Not an actual interview with Al. I think anyways.
