What's new

Can the Emmanuel Mudiay and Jeff Green experiments please end.

Two things:
Number 1) Mudiay has surprised me. He is a tank who has great skills and has seemed better this year at finishing at the rim and through contact. So I am not going to bag him out. I do see issues with his floor game, but I think he has given the Jazz something.

Number 2) I hate the fact that Exum is told he is a 3D guy. So he plays some hard D and takes one three in two games and has a 'zero' usage rate - but the offensive woes are his fault. I find this disingenuous. Get back to me when the Jazz have this offensive rating while he is the lead ball handler and not sitting sipping beers in the front row seats.

His best stretch last year was when he was in ball. His PNR numbers last season were really good.

Disgraceful the way quin has used him. He may as well sit down whilst they play offence

I hope they trade Dante. I want to see Dante go to a team. That he has a chance to run the team. P&r. Let him use his speed. Look to be honest I'm over Dante playing for the jazz.

How many jazz players have had breakout success after leaving the confines of our system? Burke? Kanter?

Dante’s issues are his, not the coach or the system.

Two minimum guys probably shouldn't be our bench catalysts. Our bench dollars are being spent on Exum and Ingles.

I think we need to just put Mudiay in the Neto role, not the go-to backup PG. He's a +/- nightmare, and the eye test backs it up.

Mitchell and Ingles (and Exum?) should be the ball handlers for the second units. I feel like way to often we jump to 'lineup changes' even in a year where we've won twice as many games as we've lost. But I do just get a sinking feeling when the bench comes in this year.

He's (mudiay) a +/- nightmare, and the eye test backs it up.

In regards to this part of your post, mudiay has played in 11 games so far this year. In 8 of them he was a + in plus/minus. 3 games he was negative.
He is a +16 for the season so far. And that is while playing with our putrid bench. It's amazing that any non starter is a + in that stat this season.

You could create a whole new bench with the Free Agents still available - and it might be better than what we have now (on paper at least).

C- Marcin Gortat
PF- Kenneth Faried
SF- Jonathan Simmons
SG- Jamal Crawford
PG- Jeremy Lin

Or team D:

C- Joakim Noah
PF- Jon Leuer
SF - Luc Mbah a Moute
SG- JR Smith
PG - Devin Harris

I would be ok with Faried, Simmons and Noah. You guys need to stop bringing Lin's name, he is not NBA player anymore.

The Mudiay Green combo is rough... then we throw Exum or Niang on top of it and it turns into a full fledged dumpster fire.

It’s not unlike the offense with Rudy Favs and Ricky... sub one part out and it works but there is a tipping point. Sucks for Mudiay but I think he’s the one that gets benched here... play Dante at backup PG and if it works then he either gives us something or we can possibly move him. If he dies... he dies.

Noah and Bogut would have been options prior to signing Howard... I honestly think the guy will play.

I like the idea of Exum, DM, Ingles, Green, and Howard... sub out Howard for Bradley, Mudiay, or Niang and I don’t like it.

If Exum is going to succeed he needs time and good health... Quin can help with one of those. Bench Mudiay for now.

Why? Mudiay showed more positives in few games than Exum in 5 years. Exum needs to earn those minutes back.

1- contract situation... Exum is on 2/20 basically... hard to move if you bench him... and we have needs.

2- The idea of Exum is that he can fit better because he’s a good defender and a better passer. If he stays healthy and works out I think he raises this teams ceiling... that’s a couple huge ifs.

Mudiay has shown to be a solid creator/scorer... but he’s on a minimum deal... is a developmental project and is a ball stopper. I just think that second unit has one too many ball stoppers and one too many non-shooters. I agree he has done more to earn time but there is more to these decisions sometimes.

The Tony Bradley and Dante Exum contracts are baffling tbh. It's time to question our FO a little bit, I'd say.

Disagree.
Based on what really? You can't certainly blame Mudiay for effort or boneheaded mistakes on defensive switches which Exum still can't figure out. Mudiay DBPM is +1.9, Exum is -1.4. Plus Mudiay ast% is better than Exum's ( last season) so I do not buy that Exum is better passer either. Of course it is only 11 games Mudiay played with us so far so we need more data to compare.

.

I would be ok with that scenario - give him minutes, get his stats a bit up so we can finally find some sucker trade partner for his " potential"

Based on historical performance I am confident Dante is a better defender. He may not be a better passer but he's a more willing passer. That bench unit needs more ball movers.

I've just always thought guys that are ball stoppers limit your ceiling unless they are great creators. Mudiay can create a little for others and he's been creating league average shots... which is good for a bench player... last couple games though we've seen some of the things that he has struggled with... namely finishing at the rim and outside shooting.

I mean it is primarily contract related... but I just don't think we bench Dante because of sunk costs and his contract situation.
