What's new

Can the Emmanuel Mudiay and Jeff Green experiments please end.

Based on historical performance I am confident Dante is a better defender. .
He may be a better one on one defender but team defense concept is like rocket science to him - thus quick hooks by Snyder numerous times after he screws up. Mudiay at least seems to understand team defense better.

This is why I hate talking about Dante... He's so damned flawed even when he's healthy. DL gonna be in an asylum someday rocking back and forth thinking about him.

See mate, it's posts like these that get you into hot water, and therefore make any discussion about Dante Exum with you a total slog, if you're going to just completely ignore facts due to your utter hatred of Ex.

Mudiay has a defensive rating average of 111.9 over his six year career ,not including his time with us, and the eye test also backs this statistic up. I've watched him a lot, and I know who he is as a player.

Dante has a defensive rating average of 100.1 over the four years that he has actually played games in, not including this year. The eye test also backs this up.

I haven't included this years statistics because it's still too early, and still a smaller sample size, and also that Ex will probably not look good for maybe another month, maybe more. How would Mudiay look if he was out almost 9 months?

It's completely clear that Dante is a better defender. This year Mudiay has actually applied himself defensively, and I'm proud of him for that. It's too early though and it remains to bee seen yet whether that continues, because let me tell ya, he was horrendous the other day.

MVP, get some perspective. You can still dislike a player, and praise a positive part to his game. I didn't like Rubio here, didn't seem to be a good fit, but I could see his positive impact in some areas.

I only compared last years Exums stats to this years Mudiay's stats. As you said Mudiay seems to be making a good progress on defensive end and Snyder himself said how please he is with Mudiay's effort on defense. Maybe he sucked at the beginning of his career ( where do you get 6 years BTW - this is his 5th year in NBA so far and he is a year younger than Exum) but he is improving now.
Exum on the other hand is what he is, he can stay well in front of his defender and bother him with his length but otherwise he is not that good as proven by his DBPM.

Mudiay has already surpassed Exum at every facet of the game. So can the believing in Bustum experience please end. Dude sucks and still looks like a talentless rookie. He doesnt even have enough talent to be a role player in the league. Hopefully we unload him at the deadline cause Emmanuel already stole his job

Exum is a better passer and defender.

He also sucks more on offense can't shoot and is too stupid to run the team. Overpaying for a bust, keep believing. Mudiay is way better

Mudiay also can't shoot and is even worse at running the team. The guy can score, I'll give him that, but he's not running the offense or making his teammates better at all.

I don’t know about the running the team part... when Ex would run **** last year it was rough.

neither guy is what we’d ideally want but Mudiay is doing stuff.

I want to see the tyros play tomorrow: DedEx, Oni, Morgan, Brantley, Bradley, JWF, NWG. We need some load management for the vets.

You're right, I probably went a little overboard. I just get so frustrated watching the second unit. The lack of ball movement when Mudiay and Green are on the court drives me up the wall.

There's that vague 'doing stuff' again, as though that actually means something. You and all the Exum haters can analyse Exum's game to the nth degree, and highlight his every miscue, real or imagined, but you let Mudiay off the hook with 'he contributes' or 'he does stuff'.

Here's an example: Today Mudiay checked in to the game and with his first touch, turned the ball over before he crossed halfway and gave up a Burks dunk. If Exum had done that, it would have been three pages of posts in the game thread about how he can't dribble, but Mudiay does it? Not a single mention. Against Memphis, Mudiay started a drive, lost control of his dribble while not being guarded and it went out of bounds. Again, not a peep. And it's not like he never makes mistakes. He has 28 assists to 25 turnovers.

So what stuff does he do? He doesn't move the ball, and that's not just the eye test, stats back it up - he has the 3rd highest usage rate on the team, after DM and Bogey, and his USG is almost double that of Ingles. 1 in 5 of his possessions end in a TO. He takes proportionately more mid-range shots - the least efficient shot in basketball - than anyone on the team (although to be fair he makes them at a better rate than anyone, too, but they're still bad shots). And his 3Pt% is 28%. And as mentioned, he turns the ball over a lot.

In regards to this part of your post, mudiay has played in 11 games so far this year. In 8 of them he was a + in plus/minus. 3 games he was negative.
He is a +16 for the season so far. And that is while playing with our putrid bench. It's amazing that any non starter is a + in that stat this season.

Last night mudiay was a +3 (which was better than every starter) and is now a positive in 9 of 12 games. +19 for the season.
