What's new

CBS reports tonight that Deron Williams has informed associates he looks to join Amar'e in NY

3 things to consider before we start creating a dozen new "Trade Deron" threads every day.
1.
So that was last offseason, before Deron played his tail off in November and December. I have a hard time getting too excited about comments Deron made 6-9 months ago.

2. Stoudemire will be 30 during the 2012-13 season - theoretically Deron's first season in NY - but Amare will surpass the 20,000 career minute plateau this season. By the time Deron gets there, Amare will still be a good player, but he will be on the downside of his career.

3. The new CBA. Not only do I doubt that NY will be able to the afford max-contracts of Amare, Melo and Deron - Jazz fans can also hope for the equivalent of the NFL's "franchise-tag," and you can bet after the 3-ring circus free-agency has become that the tag will be something the owners and Stern push for. Stern was proud of the inception of the "Bird Rule," and he doesn't want the opposite of its intended purpose to become a reality of his league before he retires.

I agree with everything you said but the age thing. Lakers and Boston won by getting a lot older. But at the same time those players had better D then stoudemire. If dwill wants to go there then good luck winning with a non Defensive team and a head case with melo.

Deron, 'Melo, Amare's Bad Knees, and no bench to speak of, with no first-round draft picks for the next while. That would be the worst best team ever.

That CBS article seemed to imply that the Knicks would only be pursuing Deron if they didn't land Melo.

I saw this but I dont really trust twitter stuff. I am certain Deron will leave, anyways, though. So trade away, get me Curry. I love Deron as a player and I feel like he is perfect for this team, but I think he made his decision to leave awhile ago. can we convince him to stay? I would have said yes, but now, not a chance.

Does anyone blame him if he leaves though? I'm sure if you gave him a choice between a bronze statue outside of ESA and a championship, he'd take the championship.

People are forgetting something, and so is CBS. Deron made these remarks BEFORE he knew that Sloan would be gone. Apparently, part of his problem was with Sloan, though I think the other part was the Jazz letting go RB, KK, and Matthews.

I also have a problem with the Jazz letting ALL Of their wings walk away.

David Stern's NBA is worse than a daytime soap opera. He loves all this drama crap and has created an enviroment that encourages it. How many top stories are about a game or an amazing performance or incredible shot? All the stories are about trades, and who wants to play with who, and who is fighting with thier coach, or about referees fixing games. And the games are awfull.

Bring back proffesional basketball, bring back the ABA.

Zero truth RT @blinkJazzfan: @MattMitnick What's this with Deron going to the Knicks in 2012?

This is why we "love" sources.."A person with knowledge of the conversations told CBSSports.com" so the source quoted heard it 2nd hand?

Calm yourselves people.

That would be good for Deron because Amare is very good on the pick and roll like Boozer and unlike Jeffersuck.

This is what happens when you have a star player with an ego. Now we know what the Lakers and Cavs fans went through a couple years ago and what Denver fans are going through right now. Most star players are douchebags, get used to it.

I think Deron is having dreams of forming a big three in NY with Amare and Carmelo. Stern better help the small market teams in the new CBA or this league is dead. Might as well contract to 8 teams.

Wow, all you DW haters are just looking for more ammo to throw DW under the bus. Just like Boozer haters who believed Booz fake his injuries..

Until I hear it from DW or from the Jazz front office I will keep my shirt tucked in and not jump on every little tweet or unsubstantiated rumor.
