Chad Ford's Mock Draft - Utah Jazz Take Brandon Knight And Alec Burks

Playing this ESPN mock machine several times, it looks like ESPN thinks the Jazz's draft board has relevant players in the following order:

1 Irving
2 Williams
3 Kanter
4 Knight
5 Valanciunas
6 Vesely

Since the Jazz can't really draft 4th or 5th given where they sit in the order, it's hard to tell if Kemba Walker is on the Jazz's wish list or not.

Interestingly, ESPN's mock machine doesn't show Montiejunas going in the lottery in any scenario I've seen, meaning the Jazz could possibly get him at #12.

Oh and apparently ESPN thinks Burks is high on the Jazz's list. They show the Jazz taking Burks in the scenario where the Jazz fall to #8. In that scenario, ESPN shows the Jazz taking Burks over Biyombo.

Which probably makes sense since the Jazz have Sap, Jeff & Favors.

What about Biyombo's height (or lack thereof). I thought I saw him listed at something like 6'7" without shoes. Is that concerning at all?

Would a fair comparison of Hamilton be Young (from the Grizz)? A tough athletic wing that does a lot really good but nothing great?

Personally, I think Knight is probably going to be gone by #6. And the Jazz really need to improve that interior defense and outside shooting. Perhaps they go big at 6? I think if Knight is gone, the Jazz almost have to go big.

I'm not sure how you missed the 5-page discussion in one thread or the two or three other threads about this, but Biyombo is 6' 9" in shoes with a 7' 7" wingspan and weighs 243 at 19 years old on top of playing overseas (the culture of weight/strength-training just isn't there). His standing reach is 9' 3". For all intents and purposes, his body is somewhere between Favors, Elton Brand, and Ben Wallace (I haven't found measurements for Ben Wallace besides eyeball measurements, but I can tell you that standing reach beats Brand and Favors, and is a shade under Dwight Howard). His weight comes in at what Favors was at when he went to the draft combine as well.

Further still, he's insanely athletic and his style of play is through and through big. He started playing in the euroleague (the highest competition of basketball outside of the NBA) mid-season as a stop-gap and ended up leading the league in blocked shots and one of the league leaders in rebound rate and rate of free throws attempted. The last game he played was the Nike Hoops Summit, where he notched the first triple double in the games' history with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 blocks. His power, speed, length, and motor were a nightmare for team USA, which was all of the standout 2012 high school players, including projected #1 2012 pick Anthony Davis (who projects to be a C, maybe a PF).

Am I the only Jazz fan who would depressed if they take Vesely or Valanciunas @6?

I'd be grumpy if they took Valanciunas with the goal of keeping him, because he's a few years away, and we likely have a slightly poor-man's Valanciunas in Tomic.

I still think Vesely could be an impact player, one of those guys who can always get a shot off from several spots on the floor. The only question is whether he'll make that shot. But he's got a nice combination of length, energy and versatility.

I would bet KOC is going to target a big with the 6. But if the guy(s) he wants is off the board, he'll take Knight. Then my guess is he trades the 12 in some fashion.

No reason not to take Burks, Montiejunas, T. Jones, Leonard or Jimmer at 12 if they're available. Those are decent rotation players on rookie scale. Not sure what trade we could pull off.

How special was Knight at running the point this year, frosh or not?

Also, he sort of reminds me of a more athletic, but less skilled (point skills, not shooting) Mike Conley. Not sure if i'm crazy about that. Maybe I'm just judging him based on his body.

That would be a dream draft, so if they could get either guy I would be happy. They would be hugely lucky if Knight was available at 6 and Burks at 12. Knight is probably a 4-5 pick and Burks is 8-10. Maybe the balls will be sucked up in the Jazz's favor during the Draft Lottery.

This

I think if the Jazz can pull off getting both Knight and Burc it would be a great draft for them. The front line is pretty set right now with Favors, Jefferson and Sap. Throw in Okur, or Fes for one more year and look big next draft if they are able to get those 2

I only question these picks after what G Miller said about getting bigger and better shooting in the draft. This does neither.

Ok agree somewhat but seeing as who will be left at #6 - I don't think Kanter (best big imho) or Williams (best shooter imho) will be there. Biyombo is big but not THAT big. Jimmer's a shooter but is he worth #6?

I wouldn't say Knight can shoot lights out but he can, and so can Burks.

Who would you pick with what's left at #6 fitting the big and can shoot bill?

I don't think Miller meant he wanted to see us draft Memo (big and can shoot), but I think if we draft someone who is not an outside shooter, he wants him to be a true big, and if we draft someone who is not big, he needs to improve our shooting.

I am just not that high on this draft. I would rather see us trade out of it and try to trade into the next draft and maybe pick up some nice pieces along the way. No one in this draft screams franchise player to me really, and I think if we have the chance to draft that high, then we need to be in a draft that might have players like that.

Hamilton isnt really tough, and he is a pretty good shooter. He is probably the best shooter outside of Jimmer that is considered a first round pick.

I agree. But all the other teams know how strong next years draft will be to, so getting someone to trade into next years draft with would be difficult.
