Chicago to Atlanta driving......

Don't worry, Re: Chicago. I'm going there on Wed and the ND game in South Bend is on Saturday so we're forced to stay in that general area for 3 or 4 days. Though any Chicago time spent elsewhere would fall victim to Detroit. I'm honestly pretty curious about Detroit though so I'm tempted.

About what? I've lived there. Out of the 17 states and 4 countries I've lived in, it was the only place I didn't enjoy. Like I said, Put-in-Bay is pretty cool side trip. If you like to fish, Port Clinton is also the walleye fishing capital of the world.

Put-in-Bay

An island just off the coast into Lake Erie. You take a fast-moving catamarran (Jet Extress, I believe). Boasts the longest bar in the world .. The Beer Barrel.
I graduated from high school in Port Clinton and spent every summer day on the island.

Some of the cities I have been to are not nearly as cool.

Siquatapeque
Comayaguela
Talanga
Beaver
Catacamas
Cold Water
Juticalpa
Jesus De Otor
Salt Lake

The degradation of the place is where my curiosity lies. I just like having some actual experience to reference. So when the news is screaming about how bad Detroit's plight is, I can have a first hand account of that burned in my brain. That's personally one of the reasons I like to travel. The more places you go, the clearer your picture of the world becomes. My picture is nowhere near clear.

Well, there's that .. I saw enough of it first hand that I've had my fill. I get that it's good for people to get well-rounded views across geographical and socio-economic realities.

EDIT: Between Detroit and Gary, you'll ceratinly accomplish that goal. By the way, have you been to Niagara?

Because this topic has nothing to do with your damned attempts to turn it political. Don't like that? Then sit on a stick and spin. I hope you get splinters that get infected.

Let me try this again.

How come nobody recommends Detroit? I can't imagine what's wrong with that city.

(your last remark was completely unnecessary by the way)

I already explained why I don't recommend Detroit. There's nothing to do there and it's depressing.

That honestly just makes me want to go there more. I must be insane.

I think the real question is, where can I get a bulletproof rental car? No, but that's something else I need to think about. I'm not sure what kind of car we are planning on getting, but going slum busting in some rented Cadillac convertible or something probably isn't the best idea. We might have to go with one of those 15 passenger Econoline Vans or something:
