What's new

Chik Fil A Day

I actually really like Chick-Fil-A's food, but never buy it because it's way too expensive (relative to how much it fills me up), so I haven't bought it in 2 years. It's sad to see how much money the owner has made off of being public about being against gay rights. I feel like it's more of a marketing scheme than anything.

Serious question...

So many Utahns are against gay marriage.

While we ignore polygamy.

How much worse is some dirty *** old dude preying on a 14 year old girl (who he's probably related to), turning her into a sex kitten, getting her knocked up 10000 times, while living off government handouts, abusing girls, etc than two adults of the same sex orientation that kinda know what the hell they're doing?

I'm Mormon yet I don't see the logic of:

EWWWWWWWWWWWW GROSS! Gay marriage???????? It's the worse thing ever!!!!!!!!! Hide the children!

And

Polygamists? Meh. Whatever. Let them be.

As if it's totally fine if men are allowed to prey on young women "as long as" it's part of their religion.

I mean... What the hell?

Had Mormons practiced gay marriage instead of polygamy back in the day, would they then be attacking polygamy right now while playing the passive role against gays?

It would seem to me, if we wanted to be super charged and emotional and motivated to do something about marriage, we'd first fix the dirty *** problem of old men preying on young women who don't know what the hell is going on before we plunge ourselves into the gay marriage debate.

Also, I think someone may have posted this somewhere else on the GD board.

This argument only makes sense if polygamists start to make a big fuss about how they should be able to legally wed and Mormons don't do anything. BTW, I've said it before, I'm convinced that if gay marriage is made legal that polygamy will have to be made legal as well. I've already started building a few extra rooms off the side of my house in preparation.

Bahaha! That's not a bad idea.

Prepare your bank account too.

It wasn't the word bigot. It's a lack of understanding when standing for something that is a spiritual principal. The reason there are two sides to teh argument is that both sides have firm beliefs on each side.

I was only saying that I don't believe it's bigotry if you have a strong premise in which you believe and that which you stand on. I don't lack empathy, but am convicted of my beliefs.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think of bigots as those who choose not to concern themselves with the feelings of others that don't agree with them.

I'm fine with anyone having their spiritual beliefs.

I don't care when they want those beliefs to be blessed by the government (in terms of marriage the legal benefits that is granted from marriage), and want to grant benefits to some and deny them to others. In Nate World the government would get out of the marriage business altogether, and if people want rights as couples retained they can go get some sort of civil union contract. It's actually mostly Bill O'Reilly's (out of all people) stance, who believes it should apply to even just two single people who never want to get married at all but may live together (in his case it was two spinster aunts of his).

I think he meant people acting like ****heads in general. Some of the more outspoken gay-rights activists do come off as arrogant which contributes to people supporting Chick-Fil-A who might not otherwise.

Is there any cause where you can't point to a bunch of activists (for that cause) who don't come off as jackasses? Activism brings out passion, and passion tends to bring out the worst in a lot of people.

You're absolutely right. Personally it seems like the mayors who spoke out after Dan Cathy's comments are the ones who really put Chick-Fil-A in the spotlight. If they disagree with Cathy so vehemently, it would've been better for them to take the route of not even dignifying Cathy's comments with a response. Now on the flip side of what you said, activism and passion can bring out the best in people as well.

So basically...

If homosexuals were to practice gay marriage under the disguise of "religious beliefs" they'd be protected/not prosecuted/pacified under Utah state law just like the polygamists?
If not, why?

I'm trying to understand this issue.

I get that polygamists have complicated family situations. Hence, why the hammer should just fall, "K dudes, we get it, your families are jacked up. No more marriages. No more polygamy. Or else."

In a generation or two, polygamy would be extinct.

Instead, we allow this virus to continue. You drive 30 mins south of Provo (1 hr south away from Energy Solutions) and you'll meet communities of polygamists. It's not like they're hiding in caves.

I truly don't understand how gay marriage is "so harmful" to our society while men abusing young girls, marrying them before appropriate age, marrying many of them at once, and living off the government is somehow ok.

Can we start a Prop 9 in Utah? Lets end polygamy before we even discuss gay marriage.

Honestly, this whole situation is ridiculous.

I mean, I'm okay with the small-scale protest. People who support marriage equality don't want to buy Chick Fil A, and people who don't support marriage equality are going to just keep eating there like nothing is wrong.

But to escalate to this? I bet the rest of the world is like: "I can't believe America is literally debating marriage equality by either buying or not buying fast food chicken."

Let's leave our political debates in courthouses, not fast food restaurants.

completely agree .. seems very juvenile to me.

I think bigot is the closest word.

So basically you think PKM is a bigot. Your mom and dad or grandparents against it? They are bigots to. What about brothers and sisters?

Are some of the people that are against gay marriage bigots? Of course. But some of those for it want to destroy the christian element in this country. They are both the fringe, rogue elements of each side. Most are just people expressing their opinions.

Actually, with the bad economic times I have noticed a huge upgrade in the quality of service from almost all of the fast food industry. There must be some sort of book being passed around to managers as well because everybody in the store greets you as you walk in and wandering employees often offer to refill your drink. Perhaps it is "Who Moved my Cheeseburger."

Higher quality employees.

<-----Case in point.
