Chris Paul to the Rockets - Beverly is off the table

Going to agree with Cappy. Don't like this trade at all for the Jazz, even though I agree that those pieces < PG13. I'd keep one of Hood/Exum and use Mitchell to replace whichever gets traded in the lineup. Everything else needs to be expendable. Burks/Favors/Diaw for salary matching purposes. The 2018 draft picks to add value to the deal. Jazz have options to put a quality deal together.

Huh?

I didn't include Hood

No you didn't, but you had Mitchell in there. I'd go with Exum or Hood as the trade's centerpiece, but keep Mitchell to replace whichever guy gets traded. I don't trade one of those guys plus Mitchell. That was my issue with the deal. Hell, ideal trade is Favors, Burks and multiple 1st round picks. Clear out some cap space, keep all of the young guys rights (in case PG splits next year) and then just figure out how to solve the starting PF problem. I just don't think that would be enough to get the Pacers interested though.

Rumours spread that Doc and Chris recently were in a dispute over adding Carmelo Anthony to the team.

Meanwhile, Houston continues to acquire waivable contracts. And rumours suggest NY Knicks are still trying to move Anthony.

What? CP3's contract expires in 2 days. Not the same

Meaning he isn't trying to be a wheeler dealer and put together super teams.

I think we try to retain our guys and just make moves around the fringes... maybe a Favs deal or adding through space. Nothing major though.

Ha!

Harden, Paul and Melo fighting over one ball!

If Gordon wants to go to Boston, will Utah work out a similar trade with Boston as the Clips did with Houston. Gordon would have to opt-in and then be traded. Who would you want from the Celtics? What about Hayward and Favors for Horford and some of Boston's Picks?

No. If Hayward leaves, the Jazz should go young and give big minutes to Exum, Hood and Mitchell. No way I trade for anybody who is on the wrong side of 30 or has an extensive injury history.

I agree. If Hayward leaves you do not bring back Hill. Exum, Mitchell, Bradley, Bolomboy...all get major playing time and you try to get as many assets as you can.

That will suck, something fierce but might as well swallow that pill and start again.

If we're going to trade assets for a star, instead of trading for George as a potential one-year rental I would much rather trade for someone who's inked for a few years like Lillard.

He did say and picks though. Pretty sure you'd take Horford if we were also getting a good pick or two.

Sure, Lillard would be great. He is not on the trade block and will cost way more than George even if he was. I also dont know that we have assets to get him if we wanted.

I don't think Lillard is obtainable tbh. I think PG is. That's why the Jazz should go after him. I think it's less than 50% that both Favors and Hood are on the team next year if Hayward stays. And while there's always the possibility that next year becomes a PG circus. . . he's softened his stance on the whole Lakers or bust thing. The Jazz have to figure out how to sell everyone on staying. . . winning goes a LONG way towards making the case for you.

either we need another star or one of our players need to take a huge jump.

If hood can make that jump........

maybe mitchell in 2-3 years?

I do believe Hood could do that... at least offensively. He just needs to not miss so many games and I don't know WTF was up with his playoff performance. Assuming health I could see him putting up 18 points per game with Hill and Hayward taking pressure off.

I was impressed this year with Hoods defense. He finally is coming around to being a decent defender. Now if he can stay healthy and find consistency shooting I will be happy. Although I would also be okay with trading him if it gets us a solid player.

Reality check. The Rox finished ahead of us last year, just upgraded their starting point guard spot in a big way, and have made a WCF in the last few years unlike us.
Yep, and their window will be 2 or 3 seasons of getting their *** handed to them by somebody.

This will be Brooklyn part 2.

I just worry about health with him. He gets a lot of lift on his jumpers... needs healthy legs. Guys also get under him all the time (without calls). If he could get consistent health he's an effective high teens maybe 20 ppg guy.

His defense is around average... like maybe a C-

I would love that!
I would love to see any team acquire Melo in the hopes of creating a super team
