This is exactly the attitude that I'd take, except that I'd prefer to keep Favors for one more year and substitute Burks and/or Diaw and more draft picks into his place. If Favors is healthy, there's no way the Jazz upgrade his spot at his current cost. Gobert, Favors, Hayward, PG13, Hill, Exum, Mitchell, Jingles, JJ, Bolomboy and Bradley. That's a solid team. Favors and JJ come off the books next year, but then you need to extend PG13 and Exum. Solve the hole at the 4 spot, and you're golden.Well obviously keeping him would be nice. But if you are waiting for a commitment, you'll never get it done. Just give up what you must (doesn't sound like much, Favors Hood 1st rounder?) convince Hayward to stay, and hope George loves it here. If he doesn't, don't take it personally.
Thanks to Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders, we have information on the designated player veteran extension (not to be confused with the disabled player exception), and it applies as follows:
Eligibility: only players entering their 8th or 9th seasons with their original franchise or if they were traded to existing team during first four years of career are eligible.

Capela, Anderson, 1 million firsts
This would have to be bad for us retaining Hayward right?

Aside from Paul George what other players do you believe the Jazz can trade for that move the needle?
Why? It makes the Celtics pitch weaker without PG13 to pair up with Hayward.
Hayward could be an All-Star walking in his sleep for the next 5 years in the East if that happens. Dear lord, it's going to go back to the days of a guy like Kyle Korver making the All-Star team.
The Rockets don't have anybody's 1st round picks but their own. I doubt that's gonna do it for PG.

Don't think money is an issue for CP3 -- not only the tens of millions he has made and makes, but he must be pulling down huge bucks for his State Farm commercials.
It would probably be more like Gordon, Ariza, and a million first. Pacers have no need for Capela with Turner as their star.

Wrong, completely. He is the one who negotiated the new contracts that allowed vets like him to get super huge max deals.
