Clippers have to be kicking themselves

RT @Youngbr2002: @ESPNSteinLine Could Rockets get Chris Paul and Dwight? (NO. THEY'D HAVE TO SHED ONE CONTRACT JUST TO OFFER DWIGHT MAX)

Hmm. I'm trying to figure this out. Asik and Lin got those poison pill contracts where they get paid 5/5/15 but their cap hit is the average of all 3 of those years. So instead of being 5 mil next year, it's 8 mil for each player. So it looks like they are 20 mil under the cap, but they are really 14 mil under. A max contract for either dwight/paul is around 17 mil. Both of those players are already losing out on around 30 mil to leave their current team, I don't think they'll want to take even less.

What's funny is everyone thought the Rockets won that Thomas Robinson trade, but he might end up being the reason the Rockets can't get another superstar. I don't doubt Morey will find a way to clear space to get one of these guys, but I think it's more likely he spends his money on a borderline all-star guy...possibly Millsap or Josh Smith

Jazz need a pg, Jazz have cap space.

What if the Rockets offered Jazz Lin, the Rockets 1st next year, and Jazz's choice of Robinson, Jones, or Monti for a 2nd round pick, or as part of a sign and trade?

Its helping the Rockets to get Howard, but its helping the jazz too.

Doesn't Houston have a few players on team options that they could just waive and keep there assets? If we could work out something involing parsons i''d be all in.

The numbers I used are assuming they don't exercise their team options on anyone except Parsons. I think Houston views Parsons the same way we view Hayward or Favors. It'll be too hard to get him.

make that 3 ppl that don't want Lin.

Solid PG, but he's paid too much and would be great off the bench.

Nah, Morey will swing for the fence fosho.

Their pick won't be worth much if they've got Howard.

LAC could just S&T Paul for Lin & TRob themselves, where they would pair Lin up w/ Bledsoe...

If say the Bledsoe for milsap deal was on the table and they got greedy, they have to be kicking themselves right now. With milsap they would have been a contender and advanced past the grizzlies.
I think it was on the table, but the Clips backed away because there's a 50-50 chance CP3 goes elsewhere as a FA. Had they traded Bledsoe, this summer they might be looking at offering Mo a contract to come back as their starting PG. You can't factor in future injuries. It was a good decision by the Clippers. If/when they re-sign CP3, they'll have plenty of suitors for Bledsoe. And any picks they obtain as part of a deal will be in a much, much better draft class.

Yeah some good points there.

But I think they're kidding themselves if they think they can get anything more than next year's draft pick for Bledsoe. He's an athletic PG who relies on his athleticism. He's not a great passer. He's not a great shooter. He's not a floor general. He would be a great PG for a team desperate for PG, but if you think you can get a PG in next year's draft with your own pick, I'd keep the pick.

Could not agree more with this. I am glad the Jazz were smart and did not trade Millsap for Bledsoe. I am just not impressed with anything that he does. I am glad we are holding out to find the perfect PG. We will. I believe in Lindsey.

Could Chrissy and Howard end up in Atlanta together this summer? They should have the cap space for two max deals, shouldn't they?

Considering that the Clips got bounced in the first round and there is no guarantee that Paul well re sign with them I don't think the Clips could take the chance of letting Bledsoe go. I'd say there is only a 50% chance Paul stays a Clipper after that playoff choke job.
