I didn't think Noah was capable of what he's doing either. Aldrich looks to me to be an upgraded version of Noah with superior shot blocking. I do see him as a 12-15/10+/2-3 guy, and doing it with a particular brand of defense. The state of the center position in the NBA is not good- this guy will be a standout in todays league at the 5.

EDIT: In fact, now that I look it up, Aldrich was timed at 11.48 secs in agility drills, Horford was timed at 12.15 secs, which is a substantial difference. If you want to compare that to other prospect's times in this draft, Aldrich was faster than Daniel Orton, James Anderson, Greg Monroe, Sherron Collins, Hassan Whiteside, Derrick Favors, Ed Davis, Gani Lawal, Jarvis Varnardo, and Gordon Hayward among many others. And his time was nearly identical to a Avery Bradley, a PG. Horford and Aldrich's times in the 3/4 court sprint were nearly identical (Aldrich was 3.35 and Horford was 3.37). Pretty damn impressive for a player who is supposed to become Greg Ostertag in the NBA according to some on here.

You should use your own links to look up the agility tests that actually matter with a big men. Aldrich can't jump. That's going to limit his effectiveness all over the place. His ability to run up and down the court faster will not.

I'll believe my eyes over combine measurements, and Cole passes the eye test. We can point to several missed dunks of Orton's but show me where Aldrich has an elevation problem in games. He's a perfect guy for alley-oops. His athleticism is actually good for his size, and combine that with those long arms and excellent timing and he'll have no problems of that sort.

Agility tests don't matter for big men? How? If that's the case, why do they even make them go through the trouble of doing it? Agility tests are a good measure of lateral quickness, very important in man-to-man defense, particularly in pick-and-roll situations. Sprint tests show how well a big man can run in transition offense and defense...which is especially important playing with a PG like D-Will.

A lack of an explosive vertical jump can be sufficiently compensated by having long arms. I think this will be the case with Aldrich as he has very good reach and wingspan. Would you like to see him have both? Sure. But every prospect has weaknesses...
 
The good thing about the Jazz is that they can take an average player and make them look great. I know Boozer plays hard, but I think the Jazz system makes him look better. I can think of a lot of players that when on the Jazz they looked pretty good and when they left, not as good. B-Russ, Shandon Anderson, Howard Eisley, just to name a few. I think the Jazz system could make Aldrich look a lot better too.

If Aldrich is a Big Man version of Harp, when he first came to Utah, I think Sloan would think they just got the first pick of the draft. :)
 
Aldrich is even shorter than I thought - 6'9" without shoes.

I really think Aldrich is going to get overwhealmed in The NBA his rookie year - in time he may be able to change his game around a little bit and perhaps have a Nick Collison type career; but I think you can forget about him being a defensive force or a lane clogger in this league.
 
It's too bad the NBA has people playing barefoot. :( If you're going to look at measurements, you should consider his wingspan as well. Aldrich compares favorably elsewhere.

But everyone plays w/ shoes, so compare two players with or without. What IS telling is Cole making some weird excuse that he's measured taller on other occasions. So I guess there was some kind of Incredible Shrinking Machine at the combine.

I think the reason you have both measurements is so players won't use "lifts" in their shoes when they do take the measurements and come in 2-3 inches taller than what they actually are.
 
Taller version of Adam Keefe? Scrappy, aggressive, not smooth but effective, puts in a lot of garbage around the basket, you wouldn't want to run many set plays for him.

What kind of blasphemy is this? Adam Keefe not smooth? Dude had the backwards dunk perfected. I don't know about you, but Ginger was not only smooth, he was silky smooth.
 
That's a good interview. I am really starting to like this kid. If the Jazz don't trade up and barring any marquee players dropping to 9, I hope they draft him.

If he does, I just hope that he's really 6'11 and not closer to 6'9. Maybe he'll grow a bit more but since he's older he may not.

Anyway, if you missed it then you didn't realize that Cole is missing a front tooth in that later interview. I'm wondering if that happened during one of the workouts or if he wears a bridge that he takes out for games?

From an interview I read, he chipped it in one game and then I believe lost the rest of the tooth in a practice.
